Does mask optional apply to parents/younger sibling (not mcps student) when they enter school?

And, I wonder does head start/prek program at mcps school also allow to be mask optional and they are all under 5 years old/unvaccinated? This question is for my friend.

Yes. It is now mask optional for everyone under 5 and all their teachers, paras, and other staff that are around them.

Then you know the PEP kids were regularly taking their masks off before. Some of them never wore masks. I really don’t know what you think masks were accomplishing in that setting.

At least they had some protection from everyone else around then masking. Now they don’t. There’s a difference between a bubble of 4 unmasked pre-k kids in the same classroom and hundreds of k-5 students + staff + bus drivers + teachers + visitors who surround them in that building being unmasked.

I understand your anxiety, but your child is so, so much safer now that cases are low and continuing to drop, regardless of mask usage. Celebrate that. If/when they go back up the mandate will be reinstated.

BS the virus is still spreading and masks will never be worn again because they have stopped counting cases.
If you hate toddlers, don’t wear a mask and help the virus spread and mutate.

There are plenty of decent people who don't mask. And there are plenty of indecent people masking. There's no correlation.

Anyone who doesn’t mask in public around a child who can’t be vaccinated is a trash human being.

Were they trash human beings when they didn’t were masks during flu season? Pretty much the same level of risk to kids. Lower right now, actually, since cases are so low compared to typical flu rates.

Like it or not, there are many, MANY parents in MoCo of children under age 5 who will think you are TRASH if you don’t wear a mask around their vulnerable kid.

We’re telling you.

If you DGAF, then whatever, but that’s what you’re doing- making parents of young kids fearful and enraged.

Sure it will. Just like they said if cases went up above 5% in a school it would go to virtual…
I have ZERO confidence that MCPS will continue to adequately monitor the situation and go back to masks if cases rise.

Its not anxiety. It doesn't matter if cases are low. It just takes one person to bring it in and spread it. How do you not get that? Cases may be low, but clearly people are still getting it.

Also, there are still outbreaks happening.

Make fun of cautious and concerned people all you want. I have an advanced degree in a science, and I also hang out with Ph.Ds in the hard sciences. We’re not unreasonable people. But go ahead. Anyone who disagrees with you must be an uneducated superstitious idiot.

Why would they bring back masks over case counts? The CDC explained that the safety of schools was based on the low risk of severe Covid cases in kids, not a low risk of infection.

If a new variant poses a significant danger to kids, they’ll bring back masks. Until and unless that happens, we don’t need masks.

A degree? What about your job?

There’s a difference between being “cautious and concerned” and being completely unable to rationally think about risk. Anyone concerned about masking around toddlers and preschoolers doesn’t understand risk. Unless they were similarly freaked out every flu season before Covid. Then that's called an anxiety disorder.

What do you think endemic means, and do you understand that’s always been the path we’re on?

Here we go again. Vaccines work. Vaxxed people are less likely to get infected, less likely to infect others, less likely to get symptomatic covid, and much less likely to wind up in hospital or dead.

But I'm sure you already know all that. But if you forget again, I'll be happy to remind you again.

I'm sure they're also faking the steep drop in hospitalizations 😆

That's actually not how it works. If a masked person is infected they can still spread it especially if they don't have a good mask. You are so much better off when cases are low bc the odds of being exposed to anyone with COVID are extremely low.

I’m curious what it will take for you to realize that you are speaking for a very small number of people. Most people absolutely do not agree with you and realize 99.999999% of kids under 5 are not “vulnerable”. What happened to your “kids are resilient” mantra?

I'm just glad the crazies are making themselves so obvious so it's known who to steer clear of. But I'm sure people had your number all along.
