They go to St Albans. They are really happy with the transition and think the school is doing fantastic as they seem to be taking everyone's feelings into consideration. Yes, they are now mask optional, but they are not just opening the flood gates and changing all the precautions at once. They are sort of tiering down a lot of the Covid stuff (not the cleaning and such) but aren't letting parents back in right away, are keeping up with testing for a while etc etc. |
And we just got an email asking parents to respond to a survey about masking - so basically some parents are freaking out and want to maintain the mask mandate. C’mon people!!! You can’t wear masks forever. These same people kept touting that they want to follow the science. Well now that the science has changed - as it does - they don’t want to follow it anymore because it doesn’t support their anxieties and insecurities….good grief |
What science are you referring to? Have you looked at the new variants in Europe? You realize its only a matter of time before it hits here and its more conetgous. |
Literally all of it. All of the science that the CDC and DOH are using to formulate their guidance. If I trust them when they say masking is important and necessary and recommended, then I also trust them when they relax those recommendations and state that it’s OK for kids to be unmasked. |
1. I’ve never seen any science to support toddler masking. It’s possible to be worried about COVID and still think some precautions are ineffective and therefore not a good idea. 2. The CDC guidelines suggest adjusting precautions to fit current transmission levels. Honestly with another wave on the horizon it just reinforces my sense that this is going to be years. That being the case, maybe it’s even more important to live a little while cases are low with the understanding that when they go up, we’ll have to adjust. 3. I’ll always oppose toddler masking but I don’t think people would be as upset if it were a sometimes, not always thing. |
So, you are making up your own science. CDC recommends masking for unvaccinated. A new wave will be here in weeks to a month - especially with spring break travel. |
Um, the CDC explicitly updated their recommendations to say that toddlers and preschoolers do not need to mask when older people don’t. |
Yes this is correct, they did update this guidelines (although the page is confusing) Also parents still have the option now to have their child wear a high quality KN95 mask that will protect their kid regardless of others. So I just don't really understand where all the anxiety is coming from,.you can still mask, the mask you wear will protect you/your kid. It is why they don't mask all patients in the hospital. Quality masks works |
Ahhhh! Oh dear I hope they follow the science and don't dial back bc of angry emotional parents (who still have the option to mask! Nobody is stopping them!) Their has to be an end, it sounds like St Albans was doing a fantastic job! I can't imagine other schools will be able to mandate masks much longer given all the new guidelines so I doubt they would lose many people to go to a masked facility. Plus going back and forth on these policies (without an influx of cases) is stressful and confusing! |
This is pretty much exactly how I feel, especially on point 3. I don’t think masks should ever be mandated under 5, but I’m willing to fall in line with the cdc low/medium/high system. |
When people say “science,” they often mean data collected and analyzed in a scientific manner. There’s no such data demonstrating efficacy of masks in toddlers. Particular not in the settings that toddlers are in, where they were regularly removing masks to eat, drink and nap. And the CDC no longer broadly recommended masking for unvaccinated individuals- it is based on Covid-19 community levels. I suspect you already know that. Why lie like that? |
DP, but this is legitimately confusing, and they need to make their reccomendation more clearly. A lot of places they throw around "unvaccinated" without considering they are also talking about low risk vaccine-ineligible 3 year olds. My daycare is still masking preschoolers, but most adults are also still masking in indoor public/work settings - even though not required. |
These adults are part of the problem. Behavior like this contributed to masking toddlers. |
Everyone is still masking at the hospital I go to. |
They are low risk for death. They are not low risk for catching Covid. |
