Will I go to jail now?

Where are you from?

You'll be fine, btw. If you apologize tomorrow, she'll probably appreciate it. Good luck, OP.

My guess is that the local police in DC have other things to worry about.

Something like that… I google and it just tells me misdemeanors and thing like this. I made me very scared! But I hope you all are right. I learned many good things on this forum before the move.

Oh hell no. You don't even get arrested for carjacking around here.

And I get it- school crossing guards are extremely confusing! Mine has 2 crossing guards and they definitely don't have their signals down. They both don't signal the same thing at the same time and it has caused a bunch of confusion.

And then there's the principal and all the other people directing traffic. The one day the teacher screamed at me to go around a car that had stopped on the right and was letting kids out- so I did. But then the teacher upstream wouldn't let me back in and screamed at me for causing an unsafe situation. I had to go through the line TWICE because of it.

Where are you from that a crossing guard would evoke such terror?

You have nothing to worry about, OP. Not even a misdemeanor.

Thank you all. I feel much better. I am from a small country Balkan but I think it’s not my country that made me scared. I love my country. I think it is that I don’t know the rules here the same. And I see so many police. D.C Metro Police, Arlington Police, Maryland Police, Park Police, Transport Police, State Trooper police, Sheriff Police… I constantly think I will make a mistake and I know there are fines because it says everywhere, like $100 extra fine or things like that. And I try to google and it tells you things from different states! Anyway I always try my very best.

I’ve had one speeding ticket (and one camera ticket) in my whole life and I’m far from perfect.

All these signs are just empty threats and warnings. Yes, they *could* technically do these things—but they have other things to worry about.

You don't even have to apologize - she forgot about it five minutes after it happened. It's not even a blip on her radar. Don't steal, kill, rape or cheat and you'll be staying out of jail. I promise.

OP where are you from?

I’m guessing Lower Troll-landia

I’d turn yourself in now and appeal to the mercy of the court.

Sometimes, it's just not clear what is happening at an intersection with guards. Then, you might have people honking at you, pressuring you to move forward.

OP it's ok. The crossing guard will not write you a ticket in the mail.

You will certainly not go to jail.

I think you're fine, but take extra precautions around buses, crosswalks, and especially school zones.

I would rather stop and be *too cautious* than pass a bus or run down a pedestrian.

Everyone has made a mistake, and I can't imagine a crossing guard reporting you-- it wasn't reckless, it was an error. Give yourself a break.
