Are the pools in the area really 99-100% white? I’m aware of the history of segregation for the origins of most of these places, but thought things would be different by 2023.

I'm the poster who posted about Hollin Meadows. At least at HM, there is almost zero diversity. When my kids go to meets against the other pools in Ft. Hunt, the swimmers on the other teams are also 90%+ white. The only pool that I know of in the area that would have any diversity is Pinewood Lake, which is on the other side of Rt. 1 in the Pinewood Lake townhouse development. I don't know if you have to live in Pinewood to join their pool.

Thanks I almost applied to join HM last year but was concerned that might be the case. Prefer a place with tennis and swimming, which reduces the options. Guess we’ll expand our geographic area.

Good luck finding diversity at any pool in NOVA unless you have access to on base facilities

Sounds like there’s a bit more diversity in Annandale/Springfield area. I don’t need a lot; just prefer not to be the only non-white family with a membership.

My Vernon Park has some diversity but you may not see it every time you visit.

The way to become a member is pretty well established. Put your name on the waitlist. When your name comes up, you get memberships.
