Clearly the kids need more time outside to run around and get energy out. Restricting them back indoors isn't the answer and merely further reduces their time to move around. Recess duty has been a PIA for teachers since teachers first started having to monitor the playground on recess duty. Too bad. This isn't about the teachers. It's about the kids. If they can monitor them inside, they can monitor them outside. Maybe instead of scolding the culprits and sending EVERYone inside, they could try leading the kids in more appropriate activities to release energy and get physical exercise. |
This. I’d hope we could have learned a few things from the past couple of years, including that some of the adaptations (like outside lunch) are actually really great! |
Huh? Where did I say that? The kids should be in school and schools should be giving students plenty of time for movement and fresh air. We know those things have a positive impact on them. |
Exactly. It’s ridiculous that prior to COVID, middle schoolers were kept inside all day. I’m not worried about lunch inside re: COVID, but kids need to move & need some fresh air. This need doesn’t go away the moment they turn 11 & enter 6th grade. I’ve been disappointed in APS’s lack of flexibility and unwillingness to do things differently since COVID began. Outdoor lunch is a relatively minor change, yet my kid’s middle school fought against even offering the option, until Dr Duran said they had to. |
It's just someone with an axe to grind. Ignore. |
