Layer of moss

Our neighbor's enormous tree shades this part of our yard and we're near Rock Creek Park, so wetter than other parts of the city. But to my question -- we have kids and a dog and the moss doesn't hold up well to those many feet. Are we just doomed to mud back there?!

You have options. Pavers, other ground cover, etc. Grass isn't going to grow well unless it has drainage and sun.

Pavers are really the best choice. But also some nice plants. Hellebores, heurchera, anise- all would work.

I would personally just buy a beautiful boulder or two and enjoy it. It’s like a fairy garden.
