Where to go in Greece?

+1

I also loved driving the Peloponnese, and think Crete would be a good spot to explore as well.

Enjoy Athens - the Parthenon is just spectacular.

Meteora is really neat

I have been everywhere mentioned here. It’s so sad to me that most Americans just do Athens + Santorini or Mykonos. There is so much more to this lovely country. Why bother if that’s all you can do?

Why not suggest more off the beaten path destinations along with hotel tips instead of merely typing up a zinger? "Why bother if that's all you can do?" I mean, come on,

Ruined by tourism and posts like this. A shame, really

Finally, someone with some taste. One of the best places to visit in Greece.

This is just rude. People usually only have 7-10 days so of course there is going to be overlap in itineraries and it’s not that likely they will spend a day in travel to see the far corners or tiny islands. And anyway there were plenty of suggestions beyond Santorini, and some people suggested it was a little touristy.

Most Americans can only do about 10 days (week of vacation) due to how long it is typical / acceptable to be out at once. I would sayAugust is an exception for longer trips but people always say that is the worst time to visit since Europeans themselves are on vacation then.

Athens, Mykonos, and Santorini were where we could go within our budget. Oh well. Still one of the best trips of my life.

We did the highlights in Athens.

Rented a car in Santorini to get off the beaten path - ended up on a deserted beach, and a local restaurant in the middle of no where where no one spoke English and I have no idea what we ate but it was incredible. We bought fruits and cheese in a local market to bring back to the hotel. The sunsets really are unbelievable. No regrets at all.

Mykonos was lovely but my least favorite of the 3. Probably because we did stay closer to the touristy areas and it was more of a party type vibe which wasn't our thing.

Milos is beautiful. It’s built on a caldera, like Santorini, but less touristy, and has over 75 beaches.

Ok, may be a silly question, but can you flush toilet paper in Greece?
