OLGC v. St Mark's Vienna

I have kids that just finished their first year at OLGC (2nd and 5th). Honestly, we really loved it - for many of the reasons listed already. Terrific community plus more rigorous academics than they were receiving at their Vienna elementary. We are also happy that there is very little work done on laptops (again, in comparison to FCPS). I'm personally not a Catholic, but enjoy going to mass with the kids sometime - I find the priests really translate Catholicism/religion into meaningful life lessons for the parish and children - lessons about what it means to be a kind human being and part of a community.

OLGC def. sounds lovely! Any recent experiences with St. Mark's Vienna?

There has been a lot of teacher turn over at st. Marks the last few years.

any idea why?

I have two children that have attended St Mark since preschool. We love the school, the church and the families. The teachers are all very hard working and caring. There is turn over but we have been very happy with all of the teachers there, old and new.

I don’t think the principal is very popular.

My son attended St Mark from PreK to 8th -- -- some middle school teachers have left to teach at the high school level (O'Connell, PVI, Visi), many have been there since the early days of the school (there were ready to retire) and others had left for family reasons (spouse relocating for work). Overall a great school and that hire teachers and administrators who care

Both are great! You can’t go wrong. I would attend a weekday mass at both schools once in session and the kids are there to get a feel of each school.

Me too. I’ve heard about lots of HW

Don't have personal experience, but in talking with friends with children there they reported much less homework (very little to none in middle school grades) compared to our kids at Queen of Apostles. ADW has homework guidelines but they seem so varied in how approached in various schools
