Crossway Community Montessori Shut Down?

It continues to amaze me how adults throw common sense out the window in the name of "COVID safety".

Agree.

This is sad. My DD went there in the early 2000s. She is now a teacher (not there) herself. We had primarily good experiences back then.

I can say with certainty that some parents sent their kids there BECAUSE everything was supposed to be outside, although I wasn’t aware of the napping situation. But their extensive Covid precautions was a big selling point in this community.

They should have done their homework on the history of this place and used common sense that napping in the freezing cold is miserable and portable heaters is unsafe. They may have changed to outdoor but they were never an outdoor school.

I completely agree, but some people are Covid cautious to the extreme and seem to ignore everything else. I’ve long had concerns about requirements to wear masks outdoors playing sports in the heat but felt like I was in the minority among parents on my kids teams.

Right, how do they still have the same management? Seems like it is time to let someone competent run the school.

This place would be a great book.

I see the inspection reports but how do you know it’s closed down?

Since nobody here has any actual experience with the school or its shutdown, I'll just note that as a current and longtime parent, the school and its teachers are wonderful and innovative. There is a strong tradition many places in the world of outdoor education, and we have been so pleased that Crossway makes it one option - of many! - in our diverse area. While the shutdown is unfortunate and the administration has had various hiccups over the years, the constant has been minimal staff turnover, great education, and a warm environment. Childcare and early childcare education are difficult lines of business.

This board is really nasty but search-optimized, so I write this in hopes that future prospective parents interested in Montessori and/or outdoor education decide to take a real look at Crossway rather than credit these admittedly uninformed comments.

I'm sure it was super warm trying to nap outside in JANUARY

Why do you assume no one has any experience with the school?
Current and long time parent here. Teacher are great. Administration is very bad. There is a long history of a lack of transparency, and a refusal to be honest with parents. They lied (and continue to lie) about the incident that took place in January, they have lied about why teacher have left in the past, and they refuse to communicate about negative things that happen at the school.
Future parents- I’d wait until there is a change in administration before you consider sending your child to Crossway. We are definitely looking for others options for our child, it’s a shame because the teacher are great and the campus is beautiful

Low turnover? Are you sure you are a long time parent? Because I can name at least five teachers who have left since my kids have been there.
Unless you are referring to the administration (Ann and Kathleen) staying in their positions despite their failures and incompetency.

In February 2021 we went for a tour and the person leading the tour took her mask off inside with us when we told her our child was medically vulnerable. The outside sell did not compensate for that level of stupidity and carelessness

Are they back open?
