Why am I paying more for Netflix than HBO?

Huh? What does that mean? We are not sharing our account with anyone and we pay $15 for Netflix!

$9.99 is a truly basic package. Only one person can view anything in our house at any time. It is usually fine since we have 4 or 5 other streaming options.

Oh please. Only fools would pay $ for HBO.

We subscribed to HBO and found a bunch of things we wanted to watch.

I like Netflix and would gladly continue it at $10/month, but it’s not worth it for $15. We’ve been cleaning out our queue and have a couple of show to try and if we like them, binge, and then we are cancelling. We will resubscribe in short bursts in the future.

The only long term subscription I love is Hulu, it has a good back catalog and access to lots of current shows.

Wrong. I think if I could have only one I would get HBO.

Netflix is now $15.49/month. HBO is $14.99/month and hasn’t changed in years.

$14.99 for HBO? What's there to watch?

Great television shows, movies, and documentaries.
Netflix can’t compare. Netflix has House of Cards, Stranger Things, Squid Game, Breaking Bad, and British Baking show. Most of the rest is fluff or easily accessible elsewhere.

Eastbound and Down
Righteous Gemstones
Hacks
Doctor Who
The Gilded Age
Chernobyl
8 bit Christmas
All of the Harry Potter movies
All of the LOTR movies
Sex lives of College Girls
Girls
Mare of Easttown
Insecure
Olive Kitteridge
My Brilliant Friend
Divorce
Scenes from a marriage
Somebody Somewhere
Game of Thrones
Sopranos
Succession
True Detective
White Lotus
West world
Great Pottery Throw Down

Besides succession are any of these current?

Lots of these are current. White Lotus, Righteous Gemstones, Somebody Somewhere, Gilded Age, Sex Lives of College Girls just that I know of.

HBO doesn’t have enough light and fluffy fun, or things to watch with my tweens. We are scraping the bottom of the barrel on Netflix so I might cancel soon, but I have enjoyed:

Grace and frankie
Koninsky method
Lost in space
Paquita Salas
House of flowers
Unbrella academy
Money heist
Dead to me
Santa Clarita diet
Merlin
Glow
Russian Doll
Im sorry
Lovesick
Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt
Atypical

I only keep HBOMax and Hulu. I get Disney+ and Discovery+ either through Verizon; Verizon wireless pays for one and FIOS pays for the other. Oh, and there's Prime Video but I don't watch that often.

I canceled Netflix last year and have been fine without it. I reactivate it once or twice a year and binge some shows, then cancel again a month later. I have it active right now to watch the latest release of Ozark.

I do the same with Peacock. I think I activated it twice in 2021.

There's no rule that says you have to keep a service for X months once you subscribe. I'm sure that's the next ploy all of the streaming services will do, though.

Remember Ye Olde Days when we got all the channels through one service: cable. Haha, who knew we'd wish for those days again.

As others have said, just switch between them. We always have Amazon Prime video because we also use Prime shipping, pictures, and music but then we rotate between the other streaming services. Right now we have Disney plus and we'll probably keep it for a couple months and then rotate to another.

Especially with the bait and switch that’s HBO Max now. You basically have to pay two subscriptions.
