UVA's World Language Requirement - applies to all majors? Even Engineering?

My STEM focused son with ADHD really struggles with world languages. He's doing ok in Latin with a lot of hard work and cannot wait to be done. He will go through Latin 3 and then stop. Other than language he has As in all his classes, which are a mix of Honors and AP. He wants to major in electrical engineering.

Does VA Tech have a world language requirement? What other VA publics require a world language requirement (trying to avoid)?

http://records.ureg.virginia.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=52&poid=6760No it doesn't, but one of my old classmates is a EE prof there and if i were your son I'd go to VA Tech which takes CLEP and Spanish is the reputedly the easiest test.

Single Variable Calculus II first semester? That's unusual. Even though students take it in HS, many universities start with Single Variable Calculus I.

W&M doesn’t require if you have taken through level 4 in high school.

I believe so, but best to call them and check.

Can you see an accommodations exemption/substitution?

DD completed Spanish 4 honors at FCPS, does that mean she does not have to take FL at W&M?

That is my understanding.

It's just the UVA Arts and Sciences school, none of the others.

If you don't have AP scores, you take a placement exam to show what level you are. If you place over 202, you're exempt from coursework. If not, you take whatever you need to take to get through 202.

Language exemptions for learning accommodations tend to be hard to get at most colleges, although one should always check to learn about the procedures.

I teach languages in college, and I'd strongly recommend summer study for students who have trouble and need to complete a requirement. Doing it over the summer removes the distraction of other courses and allows the student to monotask and really concentrate. I've seen students who failed a course during the regular year achieve an A when they retook it in the summertime.

UVA has a pretty robust summer language program, including in Latin. Don't know about VT though.
