IVF - Only ONE embryo to freeze! Feeling discouraged...

Anonymous
Did IVF twice. Each time I had no high quality embryos to freeze. Ended up pregnant both times & have two very healthy, happy kids now. The second time the doctor was very discouraged about the supposed quality of the embryos transfered & told me the odds were very small that I'd get pregnant. That poor quality embryo sure did make a high quality baby!

Same here only the second cycle BFP baby is one month old.

Hi OP - I'm feeling a bit like you...this is my first ivf, I transferred one grade 2 blast today and one morula (no known issues). I'm 32, will know tomorrow if there are any left to freeze. Does anyone know if grade makes a huge difference when you do a blast transfer? Or is just getting to a blast a good sign? I need some encouragement! Thanks

I'm not sure how much grade matters as far as blast transfer. Definitely getting to blast means that it the embryo is hardier, as we had some of our embryos die before even reaching blast.

The way I've seen it explained is that it's a way to screen out the "best" embryos if you have more than 7 or so still going on day 3. For example, if you only have 3 or 4 at day 3, they'd transfer the best of the bunch on day 3...but if you have more, they want to further narrow down the selection by seeing which ones are strong enough to make it to blast.

Again, not sure about the grade level, but anecdotally, I had one 1AA blast and one 2BB blast transferred on day 5 and am pregnant with one.

Fingers crossed for everyone on this thread who has transferred and is waiting!
