How awful is Orlando in August, compared to DC?

We wouldn't do theme parks exclusively, but have young kids so would probably want to do some of them.

There is a LOT of humidity. I don't think it's much worse than DC in August, honestly, but it's certainly not better!

Like a baking party in hell.

I could not think of a greater Hell than to visit Orlando than in August. Also, it is hurricane season. Hot, humid, muggy, and thunderstorms definitely make Orlando miserable in August.

If I’m going to FL, I’m going to a beach or a theme park. I don’t want to do either of those things when the air outside feels like hot soup. It’s hot, it’s humid, it’s horrible. Save yourself.

OP here - thanks all for the reality check! I think my uncle has sucumbed to the family trait of older people not feeling the heat. I have fond memories of being at the beach with my grandfather during the summer. We couldn't use the A/C and even without it he'd still wear sweats and wrap himself in a fleece blanket while the rest of us were stifling in shorts and tees. 😀

Its peak hurricane season though. We had to cut one trip short because of the hurricane.

PP here. My uncle also lives near Orlando. He's used to it but the rest of us were miserable when we visited in August. We haven't been back in the summer since.

We spend a lot of the time in the pool or at the beach during the summer. We try to avoid being outdoors during the heat of the day - About 2pm-5pm.

The heat has never bothered me. But, I start to get really cold when the temps drop below about 65. I hated winter in DC.

Orlando is pretty far from the beach.

I live in Fl. August is HOT and HUMID. HUMID.

Hey I love it here, but July and Aug did take getting used to. I do stuff outside all the time in summer, but I also am prepared to totally sweat and drink lots of water. If you can do this-and wear sunscreen-you'll be fine. Hot but fine!

Honestly, millions of us live here year round and do typical outside activities. We're acclimated though.

Speaking of Tampa, not Orlando: The humidity there, measured by dew point, is often no higher there in the summer than it is around here. But the sun is higher in the sky, so stronger compared to here.

Honestly it's about the same as DC. 90+ humidity and heat. Maybe a breeze but it's really not hotter at all.

I check the sun index quite a bit and it's worse in Florida than it is here. They get more intense sun even if the temperature is the same on any given day in the summer.

How is Orlando in June? Considering a trip the week of June 10th.

Still too hot for me personally. I went in mid-May a few years ago and was miserable. But honestly it depends on what you’re doing. Staying indoors or at the pool? Go whenever. Going to a theme park? Never in the summer IMO.
