Hours Per Day with High Schooler

Anonymous
We have breakfast together, drive to school together; pick up from school and drive home together; have dinner together; on weekends we'll usually watch a movie together and play with the cat, chat a bit. But mostly they are doing homework, after school activities or hanging with friends (often on line these days). I make excuses to go into their rooms (usually laundry, lol) just to say hi.

I get that the benefits of team sports and actually don't disagree at all. But I'm not gonna lie, it would suck to see my teen for all 20 minutes a day.

(his extracurricular that he leveraged right into ED1 is independently scheduled by him)

What do you and your teen do together for more than 20 min and how long?

Pretty much daily:
Eat dinner most nights of the week, go out to dinner occasionally, prepare/clean up (1 hr). I sit and read while DS plays his instrument in the same room. Or we read in the same room (1/2 hr). Walk the dogs together (10 mins).

One of the weekend days we hang together as a family (daylight only) Hike. Go on random day trips to Shenandoah, Richmond, Baltimore. Go to vintage furniture stores / music stores / a DC museum / a random traveling exhibit. Union market. Yard work! Occasionally a concert.

He goes out with friends on weekend nights and works a couple of nights a week.

That's high school for ya. Enjoy them while they're young. Teens are outwardly focused people as they should be.
