Auburn is actually ranked #1 right now for basketball.

True, but Indiana attracts more basketball fans and has a more fanatical following regardless of the current rankings. Auburn student body is much more into football.

Auburn leans heavily conservative, has a southern vibe that a northerner might or might not resonate with, is 80% white, and is highly focused on football and Greek life. Only 70% of freshmen live on campus, which I wouldn't like. It does have the warmer weather going for it, though. Unless that all sounds inviting, I wouldn't take that option.

The other two schools are more diverse ethnically and have a bigger diversity of interests, too. Personally, I'd take Boulder in a heartbeat. Being so close to such great hiking and having such a gorgeous setting would be heaven for me. The cost is a bit higher, but not not enough to make a difference IMO.

IU is not diverse.

I think they would all be great. I personally know several people who went to each of these schools and have had wonderful experiences. Honestly, I would pick the one closest to home which for me would be Indiana. (Since none of them are close.)

When Auburn is this good (which is rare), the hoops experience there is great. At IU, it's always great.

Definitely Indiana, unless your kid is set on going to an overwhelmingly white party school. Auburn and CU Boulder have party-school reputations, while Indiana is more "neutral."

IU is much larger than the other schools and that can make it difficult for students. Their academic advisors, for the most part, are terrible. My kid has top grades and the school doesn't recognize it. Kid tries to get to know their professors but professors don't seem to care. Kid feels like a number. If the kid loses a spot in the dorms, apartment living can make it hard to deal with school. It was hard to find something that wasn't a hovel near campus. The campus is huge.

Take the time to look at the bios of the professors in what might be your kid's major. If you see lots of non tenured lecturers in the field, be concerned. In my kids area of interest there are bios for professors that don't make sense. An example is some who lists no years for degrees or work history but lists jobs that have nothing to do with the area of study.

That number has to be higher. If you live out the Kelley Business school the number is closer to 99%.

I think the kids who have the best time at IU are from IU and go with friends from high school.

Indiana basketball hasn't been relevant in years.

but IU has been coming down hard on the frats and sororities. The parents groups are full of complaints.

Regardless of what you think about relevancy, they support their team. Recent game:

I guess I don't know Auburn or CU, but I went to graduate school at IU and was raised to love it as an institution. But it's an overwhelmingly white party school. And the academics are fine but nothing special.
