What ever happen to removing the Food tax in VA

Anonymous
They should be raising taxes on groceries not talking about eliminating them. People need to be forced into making better choices about the food they buy. That’s why 50% of people are obese. Because food is cheap and they buy the wrong kind. Meats, processed crap, HFCS, fried foods - all terrible. If food was more expensive people would make better, healthier choices about what they bought.

Sugar is quite cheap, it's even subsidized by the federal government to keep it cheap. Do you think this will have the effect you want if you increase taxes?

It is not a tax on food, it is a tax on food purchased from grocery stores.

So, you mean those who grow all their food don't have to pay it? Great.

How dim thou art.

Youngkin said he’d remove the tax on day one of his term.
Liar.

How’s he going to pay for it? The state budget isn’t one of his leveraged buy out deals. He doesn’t get to strip the revenue, load up the state with debt, and spin it off to die. We have a balanced budget requirement.

Budgeting may not be your strong suit. If you inherit $50k this year, is it wise to assume you will inherit $50k ever year and build your family budget around that?
