Yield protection. Problem is, there is no telling what schools need each year re: acceptances. |

DC in. 3.85GPA/1550 SAT. 15k/year merit aid.
So excited! |
| DD was accepted with 3.98 uw and 4.67 w gpa no SAT. She said she got only offered $10k a year in scholarship/aid. |
| DS deferred- 4.0 uw, 31 act, 11 Ap courses |
| 3.85 UW, 4.5 W, 33 ACT, MCPS, no hooks - received $22k per year |
Will add that DC was admitted in school of business |
The standard DCUM response when one’s DC is deferred or rejected: yield protection. |
Need to justify money wasted on privates |

| Wow. Another thread claimed UMiami was falling out of favor. Maybe, but its admissions stats sure seem to be increasing. We keep an eye on this as DH & brothers, uncles, etc are big UM guys. DS is a sophomore, but I just don’t see a 1400 SAT in his future. |
My DD was rejected but it was a reach (3.8 unweighted and 1470 SAT from a W MCPS high school. Disappointed but expected. It is very popular. According to DD’s bf, lots of applicants from area privates too, probably b/c it is very expensive. We would have needed a lot of aid. The school has great programs, particularly bio med and business. Doesn’t hurt that the city is international, the campus is pretty and the weather is good. Yes, we’re very disappointed. |
| DS got in ED2 today. Thrilled. |
| Times have changed -- less than 10 years ago my little sister was accepted with a 3.4 and sub-1300 SAT scores - no hooks. But UM took a good chance on her and she's doing the U proud now. Good luck to the future Canes. |
| ED 2 came out weeks ago. Why is someone just hearing today? Congrats! |
