Multiple people shot on CT Ave?

It isn’t a dump in that area.

Let’s be real. The problem is there are too many guns in our society and they’re owned by people who shouldn’t have them.

It is actually being imported by some of these programs not having a screening element is a big part of the problem.

Jesus this is in Van Ness? I left dc 10 years ago but isn’t that a quiet area with expensive homes?

Not sure if this is still true, but that Days Inn has often housed tourists who come to DC for protests and such, and I was, startlingly, told to avoid the area the week of the January 6th insurrection.

If, as it has been reported, the violence happened inside the hotel, perhaps the issue is complicated by the need to both protect free speech and other Constitutional rights, while also protecting the rights of those of us who live and work here.

Not sure it's current status, but I rented a car from behind there the other day and the smell of pot from the entryway to the hotel was overwhelming.

I have no idea if the gentlemen partaking where convention attendees or homeless but they looked very comfortable there smoking in public.

“Convention” attendees? Nice try. Given that there are no conventions now, and that this Days Inn is a major homeless shelter, why don’t you try a little critical thinking exercise ?

So 12 hours later they have not questioned the survivors and figured out why the shooting occurred? More likely they are choosing not to tell us hoping that we will forget or the next news cycle will wipe this away.

My parents used to stay there when visiting it was a nice little place with the convenient car rental next door. Obviously they would NEVER stay there now. DC needs to be transparent about how they are using these hotels so hapless travelers don't book. I really don't understand how you'd want to mix healthy travelers and concentrated homeless Covid quarantined anyway. Please don't tell me the Days inn ventilation is that up to date. Or that they check that people even stay in their rooms. And yes, the smell of pot through DC is abysmal. We need to repeal that law. It was a well intentioned fail .

Agree with all of this, including the point that my parents used to stay there, as we live nearby. They would be horrified to see it now.

Do a search re: Sedgewick Gardens and The Brandywine. This may help too.

These are not the only 3 properties the police have reported to Racine in a small neighborhood, close to the Days Inn. Poorly conceived and managed programs are housing unscreened tenants at 180% of market rate in apartments and crime in the area has increased.

The shooting last night was more likely drug related, not free speech. MPD just said they were from MD, so, not tourists. The hotel was used to house covid homeless and then when that ended, other homeless. It has attracted a criminal element with 73 police calls within 6 months. Not really about Constitutional rights to free speech, more drug and possibly gang related criminals with a "dispute."
