| Yes! My cat is always sooooo happy to see me when I get home. Extremely vocal and affectionate. |
| Your cat would remember you if you were gone for 2 YEARS! Or even 10 years. Cats are amazing. |
| Yes. If I am gone for a few days, my normally aloof cat becomes a Velcro kitty for a day or two after I return. She follows me very closely, sits on me, and doesn’t let me out of her sight. She has also done this after we’ve been gone for a month or more in the summer and then returned, so she definitely remembers. Cat sitters tell me she hides when they come in and doesn’t interact with them at all. She knows her family. |
| Of course. It’s not a hamster. |

OP, You are clearly a new cat owner, so I understand why this isnt obvious to you, but the real issue here SHOULD be how the cat will feel being alone that long, not how they react when you return.
Your trip is two whole weeks, and it will be very hard for your cat not having anyone in the house AT NIGHT especially when the neighbor isnt going to be there. You are right, this is very different. Your solution is highly problematic. I realize you probably would have someone stay there if you could, but in case you didnt think of that, this is what you should be doing. Have someone live there while youre gone, or at least spend the night a few times. Having a neighbor check in even a few times is NOT sufficient care for a single cat for that length of time. TWO cats would be different....MAYbe. Your cat won't know this isnt the new reality. It could stop eating and become ill. I hope your neighbor knows enough about cats to know the signs of a problem, like not eating. Your cat will remember you, but much more importantly, it will also remember whatever it went through, whether it associates that with you or not. |
Sorry if I sound a bit mean, I'm really just feeling very sorry for your cat and hope you will get more additional help. I know its not easy to accomplish this! -Cat and dog owner for 40 years, who travels rarely, for this exact reason.

Believe it or not OP ->> cats have amazing memories.
I once served 20 years in the federal penitentiary & when I got out my kitty leaped into my arms❣️ All kidding aside - I HAVE heard stories from other people about how their cats had an attitude toward them when they finally returned home. But I think this is just a cat’s ego. 😼 |
+ Yup |
| Yes and she's still DNGAF. Bring some Temptations back. |
| Yes, your cat will remember you but they will be mad. |
| Duh unless they have worse memory than dogs. My dogs remember my dad when he comes to visit after 3 plus months. |
| We get a could shoulder. Followed around and will turn her back to us. |
|
Our four cats were glad to see us. Extra affectionate and follows me around more than usual. We were gone for three weeks. They play with their sitter, house sitter and with each other so it’s not like they get lonely.
There is nothing like being followed around by a herd of cats although sometimes I think they are actually plotting to kill me especially going down the stairs. |
| Cats don't really care about you. |
