That's my take, also. It makes me so sad for her that she felt she had no recourse. She sounds like she was an amazing woman who did incredible things with her life ... and then she ends up being used by this jerk and she didn't have the strength or will to kick him out of her life. And her kids didn't step up and in to help her before she died. Blech.
