Freddy was 14. He grew early. Stop with the conspiracy theories.

It’s not a conspiracy theory. It’s a majority opinion for people who paid attention based on facts and the history of poor birth documentation practices in many parts of Africa.

I know Freddy, see him once a week, and have spoken with him about this. And I'm VERY confident in saying that it's not true. There...end to theory.

Did you know him back in the day?

I did and still do. It’s not a conspiracy theory. He wasn’t 14 and this kid isn’t 14 either.

I call BS. What are the last two digits of his phone #? Prove me wrong. Or is it that you met him once.

Race differences are real. It’s known that Africans often reach puberty and sexual maturity earlier than Europeans, Asians, and other groups. So even though this kid looks older than 14, we shouldn’t jump to conclusions about his parents lying about his age. Give him the benefit of the doubt. The others will catch up soon anyway.

Others will catchup while he gets attention, Fame, money based off his “age”.

1.) Life isn't fair. 2.) Time will tell if he has the talent to sustain being a top pro. 3.) Did he replace your son on the Real Academy roster? I doubt it. Get over it. The kid is clearly good, and even if he is 15 or 16, he has grown up around soccer, played it in at least 3 countries...and didn't pay anyone to sign him.

I wish could lie about my DS’s age. Imagine the advantage he would gain if everyone was 3 years younger than he is.

You can lie...it's just likely not going to change the fact that your kid isn't good enough to be a pro. Try harder or grow up. Maybe both. Why do I have a feeling that if it was a white kid you wouldn't give a shit? So much anger over things that have ZERO impact on your life.

I could have played at a top 25 d1 school if when I was a junior in college I said I was only 18

He's 14 and even if he wasn't and was 1-3 years older, he's already one of the better players against kids in that age range.

Please just stop this BS. You know he plays up not down? He won the golden boot for mls next u15 at u13? There is absolutely no question of his age. It is well documented way before he was even playing soccer. Lately he is playing against 17-19 years olds and clearly stands out. Oh and your kid would still not make a MLS next u15 team even if he was 22.

This is the classic case of a guy who is not happy with his own life and accomplishments, so he has to blame someone who "stole it" from him. Fact: Neither you nor your kid could carry this kid's jockstrap across the parking lot. It has nothing to do with you.

It has nothing to do with race. Age does matter. If RSL said he was 17 or 18 then it wouldn’t be news. It would just be another homegrown signing but since he is “14”, he will get sponsorships and other opportunities that would not be his otherwise.

I think this is generally a good approach in life, but I also think it’s natural to take a more skeptical view of guys who look like this—not just the 6’4” 183 lb size days after he is said to have turned 14, but also the complete lack of boyishness in any part of his face or body. Especially when they come from parts of the world known for birth certificate fraud and/or poor record keeping. This guy and Freddy Adu are by no means the only examples. I always make a note to follow their careers, and usually you do find that they don’t have long or successful ones after dominating in the youth leagues. If he’s still killing it in a decade, I’ll apologize to him in my head.
