Other MidwesternSLAC he might consider
Ripon
Knox
St Lawrence in Appleton WI
Beloit
St Olaf
Gustavus Adolphus
St Norbert

I mention these because they are under the radar of people in the DC area and one might be a fit for your kid. There are also some nice little SLaCs around Chicago like North Central College.

And for just cold, Saint Anselm in NH

University of St. Thomas isn't a SLAC.

+1 it's a midsized university with Division 1 athletics and its most popular programs are in fields like journalism, education, and business. besides midwestern location, very very different than any of the schools you listed. IMO comparable midwestern universities would be:
Marquette
Xavier
Creighton
St. Louis University
John Carroll
Butler
Dayton

Didn't have much choice. They got kicked out of the MIAC.

With those stats, he would get into St. Lawrence University in upstate New York (20 mins from the Canadian border), which is alot closer than MN to the mid atlantic (if you are around here OP).

Not to mention UVM, UNH, the various schools in Maine etc.

It's probably easier to get a direct flight to Minneapolis than it is to get to St Lawrence. It's either a flight plus long drive or a connecting flight on tiny planes. And these days crossing the Canadian border isn't all that easy.

Just to be clear, the Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, is a completely different school from St. Lawrence in upstate New York. Because both have been mentioned (and because we mixed them up in the college hunt ourselves), just wanted to flag for people.

UST is in a beautiful part of town and ten minutes from the airport. very convenient. And if he ends up staying in the twin cities, he will probably be happy! (am from there and wish I could move back)

I heard it is very cliquish there from the spouse of someone who used to work at UST. They are much happier at their current university. I don't know if/how that would affect undergrads though.
