How old to spend night alone (with tween sibling)

My parents did this when we were teens and a burglar broke in that night. It was a complete coincidence that it was that night. But you do want to think about whether your kids are old enough to handle an emergency, not just whether they are old enough to handle it if everything goes smoothly.

I'd go away on a Sunday night during the school year. Much less likely there would be a party. Agree a lot of the other concerns are overblown, a 17 year old will definitely be fine by themselves for a night.
