Uber Eats drivers are just getting lazy

Anonymous
I expect them to bring it to me, unless parking is complicated. I’m ok with going to concierge but prefer front door. I tip well and it’s clear in the order what is being asked.

Without fail, no matter how much I tip or how nice the night is, they will call and announce that they're outside, clearly wanting me to offer to come downstairs. It is so lazy. The whole point is that you deliver ME the food. If I wanted to meet you outside I wouldn't select "bring to unit" and give you directions on how to get there.

No, they deliver the food to your building. Put your big girl pants on and walk to the elevator and go down and get it. The exercise will do you good.

When is parking NOT complicated in DC? The extra time it takes for them to find parking, maneuver your building and then make it back to their car is time subtracted from another delivery.

I always meet my UberEats driver at the building door. Its enough they brought me the food - they don't need to figure out how to get around my building (and some DC buildings are incredibly warren-like - thankfully mine isn't)

OP is a bit picky/rude but your attitude is equally annoying. "It's enough that they brought me the food"? You literally paid for them to bring you the food.

Maybe it depends on where you live but it only costs me $3-$4 (going direct to the delivery driver) to get UberEats. If you live in the middle of nowhere and its a 30 minute drive and they're making more - sure. But I'm not making someone spend 10-15 minutes navigate a building post-parking for such a low payout minus tip.

Sounds like you’re tipping low. I always tip $6-10. I live in the middle of DC.

I live in an apartment building in a bad area. When strangers gain access to the building, they are often found wandering around testing doors to see if any are unlocked, and often steal packages left near the mailboxes.

I always go down and meet them at the front door. I don't want to be responsible for anyone getting stolen from.

Guess you missed the 'low payout minus tip' part.

They aren't willing to get towed so that you don't have to walk downstairs for your takeout. Meet them at the door.

I used to drive UE for a side gig. Without a doubt the most challenging and annoying part of my job were those who expected me to read a paragraph of instructions to gain building access and find their unit - not to mention the constant battle of finding parking or risk my car being towed. I was so thankful when I “got” to deliver to SFHs or townhouses and skip the bs of wandering around someone’s stupid apartment building.

If you’re saying $3-4 plus a $6-10 tip then that’s quite a bit of money for 15-20 minutes worth of work. Not crazy to ask them to come into a building.

Please don't use Uber Eats or Door Dash. It's exploitative to restaurants.
If that were true, then the restaurant wouldn’t participate. But they want tge business so they do.

You think it took me 15-20 minutes to get food, drive it to you, find somewhere to park where my car isn’t in danger AND navigate getting into your building and dropping it to your door? Amazing.

You should buy a house OP, problem solved.

I can’t stomach the prices anyway. Between the restaurant markup, service fee, and tip, our two orders of kabobs ($25 normally) was almost $50 on the delivery apps. No thanks, I will just go get it or eat something else. I can’t believe how many people do this regularly.

If you are consistently having this problem with all drivers, that probably means what you’re asking is unreasonable. After all, you are the common denominator.

I have a pass on DoorDash through a credit card so it’s free delivery/nominal service fee. Basically all I pay is the tip as long as the order is over $12. The pass is ending soon and we are going to be very sad because we love using it.
