| ITS would be a good fit. It is not that hard to get into for 6th. Maybe 50/50 odds or better. |

Sojourner Truth?

Are you looking for a high school because you don't want to do application high schools?
|
| TR would be easy to get into for MS. It’s meh. |
| I would prefer Jefferson to Eliot hine and it takes oob kids. Close to l'enfant plaza metro too. |
(1) visit the school while in session. I’m not okay with a bunch of kids goofing off and a handful learning. (2) talk to people who graduated from there. They’ll be happy to tell you that their kids had major learning gaps (3) lots of infighting between the administration and teachers. However it is a beautiful building in a great location by union station. It might come down to how your particular kid likes the school. |
Yes horrific PARCC |
Just keep in mind that if you are planning to move for your sons 8th grade year to a house that feeds to Deal or Hardy, both schools are a good deal larger than Eliot Hine. The scale jump (especially socially) from a small school like Truth to especially Deal is something worth thinking about. |
Stuart-Hobson has taken zero kids through the lottery for 3 years in a row. Not sure how it could possibly qualify as not hard to get into? Even Hardy takes a few kids… I think CHML, 2R and ITDS fit what you’re looking for with the best (ITDS) being the least convenient. I’d definitely try Latins second campus too if you can swing the commute. |
+1. I know DCUM likes to hate on SH, but it’s the first choice of a lot of the non-NW city. Why do you think anyone is trying to get into JOW or Watkins for 4th or 5th grade when they’re almost as likely to get into Brent or Maury or SWS? The SH feed. |
| +1 Truth. We are fans. |
|
We had a good number of our more engaged parents from Petworth/16H go to Truth after elementary. I am sure they can create a positive experience there.
Our child actually attends MacFarland. |
| If we hadn't been happy at Inspired, I would have definitely considered Truth. I'm hearing some very positive reports from families who are there, so think adding that to the mix is a great option, too. |

SH went pretty far into its waitlist this year. It may be an anomaly, but the interested OP could have a chance at getting in.
For the other op, SH is also our inbound and my DC is attending this year. It’s not perfect, but my DC is much happier and seems to be doing more interesting assignments than at our prior HRCS. If you want other options besides the new Latin campus, I know a couple of families who lotteried into Hardy this year. |
So the consensus seems to be Jefferson, SH, then EH? Eliot Hine has the IB program, does it matter? |
