We've been doing

Nooshi 2x month

Ambar DC 2x month (we do two of their 'meals for two' and add a few more smaller dishes/apps and that lasts us for two meals for a family of 2 adults and 2 elementary kids)

Surfside 1x month

Pupatella 2x month

Bombay Street food 1x month

What is the best takeout you have had in the last 6 months? Extra credit for in DC and nut free [ie I love Asian food but it might make my kid anaphylaxtic.]

Wait, you think the food of an entire continent is inedible because it might have nuts in it? You know there are people with nut allergies... in Asia. Right??

Our favorite takeout is Keren, which is Ethiopian food in Adams Morgan. The food travels beautifully, leftover reheats well, portions are extremely generous. We always get the specials with several vegetarian options, plus the beef and chicken stews. They are also so nice there. They used to have a family meal, which I don't see on the online menu, but you could call and ask.

Bistro Aracosia in Palisades also has nice takeout options that travel well.

Wise Guy, pizza and garlic knots
District Rico, family meal with Peruvian Chicken and sides. Must have the fried rice and plantains.
Indigo, everything on the menu
Hank's Oyster Bar, crab cakes

Lebanese Taverna has a great meal for families. Their chicken schwarma family meal is $65 - they say it feeds 4, but we easily get 8 meals out of it. I think it is pick up only. The meal has rice, chicken, pita, salad, hummus and a delicious garlic sauce. Bonus points that it is relatively healthy and I don't feel gross the next day, as I often do with takeout.

I’m Eddie Cano has a great family meal.
Recently got takeout from Bindaas and it was excellent- most of what we had was nut free.
Thip Khao and Thai Xing are favorites as well

Sunrise Caribbean
Afghan Bistro (we went to the one in springfield, but Aracosia in Palisades has a similar menu, just a little more expensive)
Bub & Pop's
Habesha Market
Himalayan Heritage (we went to the one in Bethesda but the Adams Morgan one has a similar menu)

Not in DC but the family meals from Big Greek Cafe are a great value.

Big bear Cafe has family meals for takeout on weekends!

Spice Kitchen West African grill is delicious and packs up well for take out. The wings are amazing! Though don't know about what type of oil they use regarding nuts.

Look, we're an Asian American family, but my BFF's kid has peanut and tree nut allergies. While I agree the post is oversimplified, most countries in the world have 1) nuts in many dishes and 2) people with nut allergies.

One could also say they don't buy from Southern bakeries and what would the response be? There are people with nut allergies in the US South? And?

It's true, in any event, that particularly Vietnamese and Thai have peanuts in so many things, and many Chinese and Indian dishes from regions well-represented in US restaurants have peanuts/tree nuts as well.

Sure, Asia is an entire continent, including some less-nutty cuisines, but the above four account for a very large percentage of what's out there in terms of Asian food in the DMV.

Japanese and Korean food would be less problematic, I think. Other cuisines are less commonly-found.
