Zero chance for school Friday, right?

Re Friday, not much snow is forecast, but freezing temps will make most of it stick.

In normal times, they’d wait until 5am to decide between closure and a delay, but I doubt they have enough Covid-negative personnel to clean up all the schools in 2hrs…

… so a closure is likely. I just hope they don’t wait until 5am to announce a closure!

That's the problem. Schools should have opened in Sept 2020. But they didn't.

So yes, a temporary switch to virtual with a return at the end of Jan makes sense. But there is NO TRUST. So, as a parent of a kid who desperately needs in-person instruction, I would rather fight to hold tight for 2-3 weeks and then let cooler heads prevail once people see a peak and then a descent.

I'm also a parent of a kid who desperately needs in-person (waiting for the "you're a terrible parent" poster to hop in). At this point, I'd almost rather they rip off the Band-Aid and call it now. The not-knowing is the hardest part.

I don't believe it would only be a 2-week stint, but nor do I believe it would be the remainder of the school year. Maybe until mid-March, like last year.

Pass the tequila.

I want the whole district to go virtual briefly, until we’re past the Omicron peak. I hope to God we’re back way before spring.

FFS, I hope to god no virtual. We had to write off the whole last year academically.

Right? Keep your kids home if you specifically are that worried. But for the love of god, STOP imposing your anxiety on other people's kids.

"Not much snow" is quite capable of crippling this area and bringing schools to a close.

I'm from southeastern NC. I can only think of a couple of times it has snowed in my hometown EVER. I am convinced I am calmer in snow events than at least half the people in Mont. County.

DH thinks between snow and lack of bus drivers, we'll be closed tomorrow "for sure."

Two weeks to stop the spread!

There’s no stopping the spread, but we’re not even trying to decelerate it, despite our resources being strained. Why are we restricting anything? We’re talking about public schools because we’re on the MCPS forum, but why aren’t there any common sense restrictions on indoor dining or large gatherings?

Two weeks to spot the spread.... I thought that sounded strange on March 12, 2020. I asked my friend "Do you think this will go longer? I don't see how it'll all be okay after 2 weeks."

Here we are in Jan 2022. I am scared to bits that the schools will be closed for the rest of the school year.

I am not sure what a two week closure will accomplish. We will open up and find almost the same test results right away.

Lol, are you afraid that my opinion carries weight with Dr. McNight? Thanks for the ego boost, but alas, I have no power to impose anything on your children.

Its not about what your individual child "needs" its a public health concern.

At a minimum 2 hour delay. But because of the bus issue and this being Friday, closure is likely.

No. That's wrong. And you've been wrong about that since the beginning. 99% of parents will put the needs of their individual child first, over the needs of some nebulous concept of public health, and ESPECIALLY over some hypothetical unvaccinated obese immuno-compromised community member that needs all 1.1 million to behave PERFECTLY.

Sorry, but that's simply not how life works.

DP, but children not having access to in-person school IS a public health problem. It may be the worst public health failure of this century, including the pandemic. It is unconscionable.

Also, what is it with this “your individual child doesn’t matter BS”? If someone said, “your individual immunocompromised parent doesn’t matter” people would lose their minds. So again, why don’t children matter?

Your individual opinion, of course not. But the collective teeth-gnashing of anxious parents (and teachers), unfortunately, they do seem to listen to. So, yeah, I’m pretty fed up with children having to pay the price because the adults around them won’t.

PP you replied to. I completely understand your feelings. I prefer to close schools, since I trust that MCPS has learned from the Delta wave in September, that it’s perfectly possible to deal with testing and quarantines without closing schools when the wave isn’t too handicapping.
