Covid cases during Snomicron

No - just more holding out the perhaps unrealistic hope that this forced closure will at least slow the spread of omicron.

20+ kids reported positives today for APS. If the kids had gone to school today they would have had inside lunch due to the conditions outside. It will be interesting to see how many report tomorrow (they would have been contagious today).

This— asymptomatic positives. Really a nonissue.

Curious how many of these people/kids are actually sick.

This strain is so contagious that it's going to spread whether or not school is open. We are probably peaking now/already peaked in the immediate area.

Everyone we know (about 5 kids) were sick, but nothing major. They only tested because of symptoms.

Unfortunately, I think this is unlikely. Lots of kids are hanging out in groups during this break, including my own. (We are max vaccinated and had Covid over the holidays so I think we are very protected at least for the next few weeks.)

Actually we can't.

Most people are not reporting cases over break.

Most people aren’t reporting home tests or 3rd party test results or family members positive, etc.

+1 Look how many teachers are out on the dashboard. They didn't catch it from within schools but from the community!

Yes. My teens were thrilled because so many were out of town over break. They now have had a week of get togethers.

There is no avoiding omicron. Arlington reallllly needs to get over this magical thinking that we can prevent it. No, going virtual will only prolong how long it will take to sweep through our populations. We just need to get it, be sick and be home, and then get back to business. If it is staggered school will disrupted for a VERY long time. Time to bite the bullet, rip off the bandaid--whatever you need to do to move your thinking past being terrified of COVID and avoiding the possibility of contracting it at all costs. We are only hurting ourselves, and our kids. And our kids have already sacrificed enough.

Yes, it's almost like community numbers skyrocket when schools are closed because everyone is out in the community with zero mitigation. Same thing happened with Delta, numbers dropped once school opened. Lots of parents having indoor playdates and sending to Grandma for snow day - really great for spread!

NP. IMO it does matter, the more cases we can avoid during this surge the better. The more cases of spread and exposures we can avoid while teens and tweens are getting their boosters, the better. Hopefully by this weekend anyone who picked it up over winter break will have popped positive and won't have been in classrooms or cafeterias exposing their friends. Many who did get sick or exposed will be finishing quarantines and won't have missed any school. Everyone absolutely will get it, but it would be great if we could avoid having individual schools or classrooms move to virtual because it's completely out of control for the next few weeks.

YMMV

Kids have been hanging out all day without masks due to the snow days. They would have been better off with masks on in school
