You think the better babka comes from... Michigan? You must be from Michigan.

NP here. Have you ever had it? It's both chocolate and cinnamon.

And raisins? Just… no.

I’ve heard that Russ and Daughter’s has the best babka, from Goldbelly.

It didn't have raisins when I had it a couple years back. My brother lives in Ann Arbor and I often go to Zingerman's on visits for their chocolate sourdough.

That and fragles (fried raising bagel) another Ann Arbor specialty.

I ordered it once and actually preferred the one from Trader Joes

I once did a direct taste off and it was pretty close. But if people like a specific one, then...

This one is really good if it's the one I'm remembering from East Coast corner stores! In DC - I feel like that market next to the Pan Asian place on Connecticut Ave carried Green's Chocolate Babka when I lived there a few years ago. That strip with the old Lobster Shack / tchotchkes shop / ice cream sandwich store, across Connecticut from Marco's Lebanese takeout.

They sell Green’s babka at Wegmans, if there is one near you.

Breads is the best! Or I have a recipe that is as good but takes two full days and about three pounds of butter.

NY Jew here, transplanted to DC. Zingermans is awesome - everything we have ever had from there is terrific, including the babka

The Babka from Kossar’s is awesome. Much Better than Zabar’s or Russ and Daughters though Russ and Daughters lox is the best.

Oneg babka is so chocolate-y and rich. Order the double chocolate! Your friends will be awestruck.

I agree Trader Joe’s is good.

The problem, for me, is that Breads uses Nutella and I don’t prefer that taste to actual plain chocolate.

I have not had Zabar’s.

If you move to cookies, black and whites from Zabar’s are good. But those from Wm. Greenbergare better. Or Levain cookies, too.

I am in NY perhaps obviously.
