RE said “not a good idea” to COVID booster mid-cycle…

I’m the OP and this was my plan but with Omicron I wanted to get booster ASAP and hoped by third trimester I could be cleared for second booster (I assume COVID vaccines will be annual or bi-annual like flu vaccines for awhile). Kicking myself for not getting it the second I was eligible.

I really like my RE and he’s encouraged all his pregnant patients to get vaccine/booster in second or third trimester so his cautiousness here concerned me.

I’m OP. If your clinic said it was fine, I’d follow your clinics advice. Last thing I want to do is discourage anyone from vaccinating based on my understanding of my REs opinion.

I’m the PP and it’s okay. I am happy to have the additional perspective from other women’s REs, as no one has much data at this point and my own RE is operating on limited knowledge too.

Yes. It also demonstrates how no one really knows about the side effects of the vaccines. REs care about stats and whatnot. They for whatever reason, think having the booster could affect your results. To me that’s very telling. It’s one thing for the cdc to issue a blanket “all pregnant women should get vaccinated and boosted ASAP” The cdc doesn’t care if you get pregnant. It’s trying to end covid in the US or have this be endemic.

No, it doesn't. You want it to mean that, but it doesn't. It's not *very telling* that RE's are saying "don't do anything different than this pamphlet we printed 9 years ago", it's more telling that one clinic told a patient go ahead and get boosted and another said not to based on anecdotes. But the story that tells doesn't support your antivax conspiracy about the CDC trying to damage fertility rates.

^. Yikes! Someone is upset everyone they know is getting covid despite the booster.

their security blanket is starting to get holes in it…

I got my second shot shortly before starting a cycle, which seemed to delay my period about a week. On the plus side, I got pregnant with that cycle and got my booster late in my second trimester. (Just anecdotal evidence that it can seem to mess with your cycle). I would follow your RE’s advice on this. Best wishes to you!

I’m on the estrogen pills and am 12 days from a FET transfer, so there’s no risk of delaying my period but is there evidence that getting a booster now could still mess with my lining or impact transfer success?

I’m sympathetic to your REs point because when I got my booster, my period was several days late despite my cycles being extremely regular. A lot of people have observed this phenomenon… the issue is that with omicron blazing through the population at this moment, you’re pretty likely to get Covid. And getting Covid without a booster seems like it might be worse than just getting the booster?

I’ve done fertility treatments before for my kiddos. I wouldn’t get the booster. Also try not to stress so clique but anything like that does mess with your cycle.

Off schedule bleeds are usually not real periods. I think it causes clotting/ischemia and the lining just dies and sloughs off. Not something you want to throw an embryo into. I would boost now and delay the transfer.

I was 15 days away when I posted and past baseline and now just on Estradiol. Still haven’t gotten it and feeling very regretful/mixed. Haven’t enjoyed much because I’m so anxious about it.

No one has any idea if it’s fine. The vaccine hasn’t even been out for a year. There is so much they don’t know about both covid and the vaccine.

I’d stay home for two weeks and hunker down. See if the risk changes any with omicron.

Scientifically: “we do not have evidence of danger.” Well, OK. But the vaccines are all new, so of course there is no data.

- that does not mean it’s completely safe.

Anecdotally, the vaccines often affect the menstrual cycle.

OP - I would wait, and take the usual CDC recommended precautions; especially masking and staying home / not traveling now, with Omicron out there.

I would skip the booster altogether. It’s not that effective against omicron, and any additional protection wanes after a few months. Everyone i know is getting covid now. From what I’ve seen, the symptoms have been the same if not worse for people who got a booster vs those who didn’t. FWIW, I got the vaccine before IVF but no booster. I’m now 24 weeks and recently recovered from covid. I was sick for maybe 4 days, no fever, just felt like a bad cold. The baby is fine.
