Why Don’t Domestic Flights Require Testing?

Also, this is political theater. By testing international travelers, they look like they're doing something.

I think the requirements alone may make people more reluctant to travel which I guess reduces the spread. But actually testing the day before is a joke and doesn't prevent a heck of a whole lot. You can test, go about your day potentially catch Covid and bring it with you. Or you could dot be at a point where you test positive yet and still bring it with you.

Rapid tests don’t even work that well on asymptomatic people.

The USA is the size of 17 Frances. Each state should have a rapid system in place to check vaccinations at their borders, too, with a pass for commuters.

Yeah, I'm sure that would work out splendidly.

Do you people give any thought to the real world when you say things like this?

It's all really quite stupid.

Look...America has prioritized the economy in these types of decisions the whole time. They're not going to stop now.

This is why people could sit in a bar and watch a football game last winter while my K kid did virtual school.

Because $ makes the world go around and to be fair, lots of people's jobs are tied up in keeping the whole infrastructure churning.

While they'd probably lose some business from the BUT MUH FREEDOMS crowd, I think they'd gain alot more business, particularly from families.

The airlines have no desire to be the vaccination police. Their staff is not trained for it, and since there is no national vaccine mandate or passport, the whole thing would be a nightmare and would shut down air travel. People are already losing it over mask mandates on planes. How do you think people would react when they show up an airport, and a counter agent at Delta dings them over what they perceive to be a faulty proof of vaccination?

This would be a huge burden, and wouldn't make any meaningful difference to the spread of covid. Covid is in every state already.

You walk through security at an airport, and can spend your entire time waiting for your plane maskless, shoulder to shoulder with other people, at the airport bar. It's all theater at this point.

Why are we even testing with international flights? Covid and omicron are already here. How much do you think air travel is contributing to transmissions compared to transmissions between community members?

It makes the Biden administration look like it's doing something.

They’re out of ideas as to what they can do legally. The vaccine mandate through OSHA is dying in the courts. Lockdowns are off the table, and the Feds don’t have the power to enact a national mask mandate. New vaccinations are at about 500K a day.

In terms of mitigating Covid, the government has done all it can. It’s time for them to pivot to the reality of living with it long term as a society.
