The Ugly Holiday Sweater and other wasteful items

All balloons. Especially those filled with helium.

I use k cups and wrapping paper. But we adopted DD and didn’t give birth to any humans do does that offset my waste? Oh and our dogs are both rescues. I get most of DDs clothes from the thrift store too.

In DCUM there is no shade of gray. You are good or bad.

You my dear have failed.

I reuse wrapping paper, esp. the large pieces. I'll mix different wrapping paper remnants to cover larger gifts.

Do people buy new ugly sweaters every year?

I have three that I love and I intend to wear them until they fall apart. Those three are usually enough for me to cover multiple parties during the season.

The Japanese wrapping cloth is called furoshiki and there are many methods of wrapping — just google or search on YouTube.

I just use pretty handkerchiefs, scarves, old playsilks, and some larger furoshiki that I actually bought in Japan. I’ve used pillowcases and just tied the top like a bag. We never use paper gift wrap for gifts within the household. I usually just tie it or wrap it somewhat haphazardly— quick and still looks passable IMO.

Clean up is super easy and no waste!

K cups are absolutely horrible. I'll give you a pass for the wrapping paper.

You totally win with the adoption PP. All these other sanctimonious biddies giving birth to (possibly multiple) children and doing way more to harm the environment anything you do. Their virtue signaling with the JAPANESE FABRIC is actually quite laughable.

The people who have the most children right now actually consume the least. African women have the highest birth rate. Africans pollute the least. That is, until we show them how to "live". Mhm, we need to tell them how they have to eat exotic imported stuff wrapped in plastic, dried mangoes in plastic, gatorade, six types of shoes for each kid.
ONE tiny American family can outpace seven families in the real world (I no longer use the term "developing" world, since we are the ones who need to develop)

BTW, pp, did you fly overseas to get your kid, or was it a local adoption.

Africa is a continent, please stop acting like it’s one country. There’s a huge spread of cultural differences

Where did I use the word country?

And it was intentional. We folks in the west (developed nations) are teh screw up. And it is the "emerging nations" who are manufacturing garbage (while polluting) for us that we think we need, like sweaters to wear once a year.

Back in the 90s-early 2000s every day was ugly sweater day at my office.

Preach! And the matching earrings and necklaces and on and on.

I am in the process of downsizing so very tuned into the wasteful stuff in my house. The worst right now are presents that people gave us especially the little cute Knick knacks. Ceramic baby blocks, figurines, vases, it goes on and on. So hard to get rid of (no one wants them) but feel bad trashing them.
