On the TC Equity podcast, they mentioned that the DAY before the company had celebrated closing another round of funding and that had about $1B cash on balance sheet.
And then layoffs. Wonder if it was partly to clawback unvested stocks. |
The CEO saying “um” all the time and saying he will try not to get into his billions icing on the cake. Oh and how they were laying off because they had gotten more efficient and productive, as was also mentioned on Equity. Basically people did their job well, now they are done and gone. This is Netflix slide deck inspired. |
The CEO is Notorious for fraud and embezzlement of funds. This is his way of covering his assets. |
What a dick. |
Typical Silicon Valley, Netflix HR inspired, we aren’t a family, we’re a sports team. You get cut, it’s because you don’t have any value in the moment, nothing personal. |
https://hbr.org/2014/06/your-company-is-not-a-family Of course, most sports teams are unionized and pay still way better than line employees |
He Threatened to Burn His Business Partner Alive. Now He’s a Billionaire. Are we surprised?

Rip the bandaid off, eh?
He had to anticipate someone would post this. He probably likes the press. |
Did you read about WeWork? CEOs know the boards are afraid to upset the founder genius, and there is no upside to being adults (Uber had a really hard time), but if they let the founder ride free they may get huge payday. Was he sleeping with Elana? |
I love how he lists his High School on LinkedIn: Stuyvesant, yes is a selective magnet school, but end of the day you are there because you parents lived in NYC and tutored the hell out of you. |
I believe she was paid for extra work wink wink |
Meh. I went to TJ and I have it listed on LinkedIn (but not on my "official" resume). I get lots of cold calls from recruiters due, in part, to the TJ thing. |
That tracks, I know a lot of TJ grads and private school grads who look for similar pedigree. |
Not defending this but I’m not sure it’s any worse than when they do it en masse in person. You get sent to a big conference room, everyone in that assigned room is told they’re let go, and you get a escorted out of the building with your desk contents in a box. It’s like being in a bad movie. I’d rather do it online. |
This. Nobody wants to deal with this in person. Everyone left behind should be looking for new jobs. Nobody will touch this business. |
