What do you pay for grooming a large non-shedding dog?

I have a Samoyed with a double coat, who not only sheds but needs to be brushed and blown out (not clipped though). I've always groomed him myself. It requires time and arm strength. At the end, I have the equivalent of a second dog, in hair fluff! I use both a large brush and a comb, and when he blows his coat twice a year, I need to use a professional-strength dog dryer outside on the porch to blow away all his undercoat. He hates that part, but it must be done, otherwise he overheats and sheds like crazy.

I am Alexandria but could do South Arlington, Fairfax near 95/395.

Oh. I live in Maryland. I found my Groomer via the next door app.

Try Annandale pet spa. For my super fluffy 30 lb dog it’s only $85, so I would bet under $150 for yours.

Well, it’s $150 for my 30 pound Goldendoodle, plus I tip 20%. And we do that every 8 weeks. But I’m horrible with brushing, so need the grooming often.

You are letting the dog get matted. That's on you. There aren't any tips to give other than brush him after a bath with conditioner. They aren't making excuses- you are being unreasonable.

If you can't deal with long poodle hair- get him a puppy cut and be done. That's cheap and easy to maintain.

Fair enough but I’ve asked them for help figuring out how to brush the dog to avoid tangles (any mating has been really minor) and they told me I need to buy an expensive brush, but that was it. I swear I’m not usually this clueless!

So did you buy the brush? It's not rocket science to use it. You need to do it daily ideally, minimum every other day.

I honestly don't know why people like the poodle/doodle coats so much--they are a LOT of work to maintain properly!

I’m not sure what you’re asking. There’s no “trick” to it. Get a comb (doesn’t have to be expensive, just sturdy) put the teeth next to the dogs skin, pull through the hair. If it’s matted, cut the mats out with scissors. It’s easy if you do it frequently (ideally every day if the dog has long hair).
