This will be like the UK, where everyone was 'shocked' when the conservatives throughly trounced the liberals in parliament and won seats they hadn't held for almost 70 years. People are sick and tired of unfettered mass migration, open borders, and destruction of their way of life.

End of the EU? So much hyperbole, OP.

Polls on Brexit showed within a few points. Macron is winning by 15+ against any of Zemmour, Le Pen, or whoever the Republicans spit out from their primary.

(Also we have post-Brexit life in reality, and BoJo is running neck and neck with Starmer due to the various problems post-Brexit life is providing.)

The funny thing is is that Macron would be called a white supremacist right winger over here because of his anti-woke views.

A center-right nativist being called a white supremacist right winger? Quelle horreur!!

I love comments like this. You’re the same kind of person who goes to Europe because of its “authenticity” and “culture.” If every neighborhood bistro in Paris was replaced by a falafel shop liberals would be the first people to change their vacation destination. It’s the same contradictory mindset behind mythologizing places like Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket but looking down on other places that often have more minorities while at the same time calling people “right wing nativists” for wanting to preserve the very culture they themselves hold up as an ideal. It makes absolutely no sense.

Zemmour Will not win.

French election structure will see to that.

People are way hyperbolic over his chances.

Ah yes, the extremist strawman that no advocated for.

Who are you addressing? No one - liberal, conservative, moderate, Cthulhu - with a sense of taste wants a city solely composed of falafel shops. What a dumb hypothetical.

PS - most of the people summering in Nantucket are rich conservatives.

He's not going to win. It won't even be close.

Macron has done a fabulous job of governing from the middle. Embracing renewable energy independence by building more nuclear capacity. Focusing on keeping schools & public place open through COVID, while also utilizing hard 2-week lockdowns during localized outbreaks, the HealthPass system, etc.

It wouldn't surprise me if Macron avoids a run-off.

No that won’t happen either.

Macron will win unless zemmour and Le pen split enough for LR to get into run off.

Macron vs Barnier would be interesting

I love comments like this. Just goes to show how intellectually bankrupt Republicans are. Nothing but lizard-brain id. I hope this rant was cathartic for you, at least!

And if you re-read my post, you'll notice I called Macron "center-right nativist." Perhaps a fine spray of spittle obscured that part of my post as you mashed your keyboard in a feckless rage?

If Macron loses, he should run here. He seems perfect for the US. Apart from being French.

DP. I enjoyed PP's post; it's very accurate. The left only likes authenticity and nativism from cultures they respect.

I used to like him on one of the late night TV shows years ago. Don’t see how he could win.

Ugh, he looks so creepy. Campaigning with a knocked up 20-something, while his lawyer wife sits quietly at home? This is a new low, even for France.

Yup. Typical right wing hypocrite.

How is it hypocritical? Your judging French politics is through a provincial American lens. The French are not as puritanical or sexually repressed as your typical American or Brit. This would be a scandal over here but is probably good PR for him in France.

He has just confirmed the relationship (has known her since she was a teen). Gross, and I am French.

As long as it is consensual, it is fine. Women like influential men

I support pecresse anyways

Did his wife consent to him impregnating someone else?
