I agree with this, but there really isn't another program for kids who need small class sizes, but for whom something like a self-contained sped class at the base school doesn't make sense because they need a faster pace. These types of kids also are left without a good placement in ES/MS. The option is Burke or a CSS program (that is trying to meet the needs of way too many types of kids).

I agree with this. I wish FCPS would put together an ASD-only HS program. My daughter with ASD was horribly bullied and tormented at Burke for middle because the other kids had VERY different challenges.


An acquaintance's son had to go to the ER after he was beaten at Burke by another student. He also has autism. Refused to go back to school and is now home schooled. Burke is a sh!tshow. FCPS is trying to educate kids with intensive needs there on the cheap and it can't be done.
