Favoritism at ECNL U14

Anonymous
Oh right some kids play the full game and yet they do nothing to help the team improve. Team loses one two three games etc. These kids I guess are the CORE team and are doing nothing to improve because they know coach will never cut their time. Their passing skills are awful and the play mid field positions.

The OP is oddly specific, but with details that don't make much sense. We are talking about an 09 player on a U14 ECNL team, but last year VDA did not have an 09 team, let alone a 2nd or 3rd team (VDA only has one team per age group, starting at U13). BRYC and VA Union are (and were last year) the weaker two VA teams at this age group, so it would have to be one of those two. Since BRYC won their division of the bethesda premier cup, I'm guessing they aren't coming here on a Monday morning to complain. VA Union, on the other hand finished 3rd in a weak 4 team bracket at their own tournament, so it would have to be them. Still, I'm guessing troll post.

The kid used to play for VDA on a 2nd or 3rd team, but now is playing ECNL and is playing up a year. The kid is not very good and is slow which actually hurts the team playing in the midfield. The team is not very good being a lower tier team in the U14 age group. To add, this parent has made numerous recommendations to the coach resulting in 4 Latino players joining the team for this year at this dad’s recommendation. These players were supposed to bring this team to the next level, but the team continues to be a losing team. You can tell this coach favors these kids more than the rest of team and they all start every game though only a couple should start cause there are better players in those positions on the team. Basically. this dad has the coach wrapped around his finger as every now and then there’s a new kid at practice and guess who recommended the kid to tryout?

So what can be done at this point? Is there anything that can be done in this situation? Or do we just shut up and continue to shell out $2500+ a year for this BS?

You play on VDA and you call out Latino kids. So clearly you’re a redneck. Why don’t you get your kid to quit soccer so you two can hunt and fish on the weekends? Problem solved.

OP said they used to play on VDA, so OP wouldn't be on VDA.

Dont confuse favoritism with comfortability.

There is no such thing as a 2nd or 3rd VDA team.

Why is it that a player’s ethnicity is thrown out there to put extra emphasis to help ones comment? We all understand that soccer in this country is a pay to play system that caters to mostly privileged families due to the ridiculous fees associated with the elite travel leagues. Were you afraid that if you removed the ethnicity from your comment, the comment would not hold the same weight? Maybe you want some like minded peers to chime in? Please step down from your high horse! Players make it onto these teams due to their talent. Their parents are also paying the same fees that you are paying. Some players are accepted with scholarship/aid, but they also make the teams based on their talent. There was no mention of the initial player and his father. When there is no mention of ones ethnicity on this soccer forum, the assumption is that the player/adult is part of the privileged group.

This comment is for the original poster and anyone else that throws ethnicity out there for emphasis.

Without specifics about what club/league we are talking about.

This is just a useless discussion thread.

It's a troll thread. The OP entirely fabricated his example to trigger as many people as possible. It was a level 2 troll because it also included a false statement (VDA 2nd or 3rd team) known to be false by only some readers, which would trigger an additional set of replies.

Despite the level 2 statement, it was a fairly weak troll though as it was mostly met with boredom.

I myself have an idea for a truly excellent level 3 troll which I will use in a two or three weeks once people have forgotten this statement.

It's best to get out in this situation. That parent will forever influence the coach to bring on players though they may not be very good. The team will be stuck with a bunch of 2nd/3rd team players trying to be successful as a top team for the age group. Run, run away, far far away.

VDA parent who did not wand to disclose the players are either VSA/PWS covered his statement making up a VDA 2nd and 3rd team.

My instincts are similar to pp. True story but slightly changed information as not to identify people.

I don't think so. How many 09s (either VSA or PWSI) are playing on an 08 team. If it is real, they are already identified.

+1. Big, fat, greedy troll.

This post is oddly specific enough where you can determine what player is being discussed from the very granular details.

Do better OP. These are 12 and 13 year olds (at U-14). And look, if your son is not starting maybe he just isn't good enough....maybe he isn't as good as the Dad who is trying to help the team find new players?

If the coach is bringing new players on, maybe they are better than your kid and the other kids.

And if the team has a lot of new players on it year over year, the Coach is definitely trying to reframe a losing team to a winning one. That doesn't happen that quickly. That takes time...
