Because there is a good chance she will lose it. |
| I would get a big turquoise ring |
| Tiffany’s |
| Just as long as any heartache from losing it (yours or hers) isn't greater than her joy of receiving this gift. |
| I would just get Kendra Scott or Kate Spade. |
Why not? I have some nice pieces that I got as gifts as a kid and a young teen that I still treasure, and sometimes wear. |
You must have never shared a room with a younger sister |
| What body piercings does the teen have? |
Well, at 14 things get lost, traded with friends, borrowed by friends, etc. At 14 they simply don't know how to value things like jewelry. Because they don't work for their money. Also, their taste will probably change in the next ten years. You don't wear the same jewelry at 24 that you did at 14. |
You allow her to wear it special occasions. Do you not get her a coat, phone or other things as she may lose it? |
Maybe that is a parenting issue as at 14 if your child doesn't know the value of things and know not to borrow or trade, that's on you. And, you don't need to work for money to understand it. You need parents to work with you and set a good example. If you get a nice gold necklace or earrings they can wear it at 24. Its a lovely gift. |
As the younger sister I never wanted my sisters stuff and refused it when it was given. I'd rather go without clothing than take hers (which I did sometimes as my parents put all the effort into her - and I'd have to wait till grandparents visited to get me clothing). My sister took everything. No reason why a 14 year old can't have a nice piece of jewelry. |
+1 And they always gave good sales. Bought a $500 necklace there for half-off. It was sterling silver with a few tiny diamonds shaped like stars. |
