I think the best is probably whatever you grew up eating. For me, Scot Peacock's cornbread dressing recipe comes closest to ideal.

I didn't grow up with any traditional dishes, so never developed a taste for anything specific! Just me and a single parent, so we typically got an invite somewhere different each year. I just loooove stuffing, and want to learn how to make the best haha!

Half cornbread half bread cubes, a ton of butter fried sage, sausage, a few boiled eggs. Follow a recipe but make those tweaks.

+1. Scott Peacock’s (really Edna Lewis’ I think) is almost identical to my Grandmother’s dressing. In fact, when I found it, I sent it to my Mom, because we didn’t have a real written recipe (with actual measurements) for it before.

WTH does one do with rutabegas? My DH says his grandmother used to feed them to her horses and refuses to allow them in the house.

I just boil a package of cranberries over medium with one cup of water and 3/4 cup of sugar until they start popping, then I lower/stir/eventually turn off the heat. I like my cranberry sauce really simple. I always do this one or two days before.

Making your own cranberry sauce is so simple. And it's soooo much better than anything in a can or jar. Find a recipe that includes the spices you like.

I swear by Alton Brown's recipe. We've often made 3-4x the recipe. It's even better if you make it a day or two ahead.

Bashed neeps! Peel it, boil it, mash it with butter and plenty of salt and pepper. I love them, my family will not.

What tips do you have for cooking with one oven? I don’t want anything to get cold.

I say this on here every year, use coolers. Line your coolers with towels and put your casseroles in. They will stay hot for hours. Also, your turkey will stay hot for about an hour after you take it out of the oven.

Important: This is the best pie crust AND the easiest to make yourself. (I know some people swear by the refrigerated kind, and I am not going to get in the way of anyone's tradition.)

We’ll be spending Thanksgiving with someone who is allergic to all types of poultry, so no turkey and no chicken broth/stock. Menu TBD.

Or eggs. It’s a thing.

It sounds like their not vegetarian though? Are you hosting or attending?
