We can't afford it. Not OP but another family going to Oahu. Not everyone can afford the other islands. Oahu is much cheaper. |
| I should add part of the reason we can't afford it is those islands would require us to also rent a car to get around and find food. In Oahu we don't need that so it's less expensive even if flight and lodging is similar (it's slightly higher in Kauai and much higher in Maui) |
Are you coming from DC? |
It’s Hawaii if you’re spending enough time in your room to be bothered by your kids being around then your doing Hawaii the wrong way. |
I haven’t been to Oahu but have been to Maui and Kauai. His can you enjoy any island without a car? I know the other island have so much to see and that every area of the island is different. Isn’t Oahu the same way? I can’t imagine going and just staying in I’ve area. May as well do a Caribbean of Mexican resort. |
Not OP but we are also doing HI for spring break and don't plan to get a car. There is a shortage afterall. I would prefer a resort in the Caribbean and Mexco BUT we can't risk not getting back to the US. Kids are in HS and have AP classes they cannot miss. |
because I'm a bad, bad mommy who hates my kids. DUH. |
| Honolulu has excellent public transportation. |
Oahu without a car is tough. I wouldn’t want to go and spend all my time in Waikiki - would’ve been easier at that point just to go to Miami. |
There’s plenty of reasons parents wouldn’t want to share a room with their teenage girls if they can find a way to avoid it. I love my kids but for a long vacation certainly would prefer if everyone could get a little space. |
What Maimi has trash beaches. You go to Hawaii for beaches and you can travel around Oahu without a car. We do it every Christmas except the last one. |
Where did you stay while in Kauai? We are considering the Grand Hyatt in August but afraid it will be incredibly busy. |
Okay, but who would “rather not travel” than have to (gasp!) share a room with their kids? |
Me. |
Was at the Grand Hyatt is Kauai this past August at peak of the peak summer travel. It was busy, but we loved it and never felt overwhelmed or packed with people. |
