Uh.. wut? I couldn't follow the movie as an adult and it's inappropriate for 9 year olds even if they could follow it.

Seriously?

Did you watch the movie without knowing the music beforehand? Maybe I need a better sound system in my home, but I 100% do not understand the hype. And I'm a big Lin Manuel Miranda fan based on Moana.

Curious what you found inappropriate? My 10yo loves it, and the mildly adult allusions go right over her head.

This is an incredible self-own.

Descendants is good and it's a musical so they can sign-along.
Parent Trap is great too.

At parties mine have seen:
Big Fat Liar
Hotel Transylvania
Yes Day

Oh and Hotel for Dogs is cute too!

I came on to suggest the LiLo Parent Trap.

Other movies my 9 yo loves:
Enchanted
Spy Kids
Incredibles 1 and 2
Princess Diaries

We recently watched that version of "A little princess." It's a good movie, but I would not want to show it to a bunch of other people's kids. A lot is about parent death and my 9 year old cried. I love The Sound of music, but it's a little long for a party and the Nazi stuff at the end is scary.

I haven't seen Chitty Chitty bang bang as an adult, but thanks for the reminder. I want to check that one out again.

Bedknobs and Broomsticks from a similar era could be fun and has a Halloween your in with the witch.

I alao agree with:

Enchanted
Descendants

And put in a plug for:
Shrek
Ella Enchanted (with Anne Hathaway)
The new Amazon prime Cinderella
Vivo
Luca
Zootopia
Sing
Rio
Toy story
Akeelah and the Bee

Oh and Annie could be fun. My favorites are the original (might be too long) and the 2014 remake.

Lol my 9yo loved Hamilton for about a month. It’s fine, I wouldn’t do it for a birthday though. How about Home Alone? Annie ( original or remake) The Little Princess. Samantha the American Girl movie was pretty good too.

LiLo version of parent trap did not age well and has some really racist stuff in it (calling children porch monkeys, plot hinges on magical asians).

The musical version is much better.

PP here - sorry, I said the wrong thing. They actually say yard apes instead of the one I wrote before. Both bad, but wanted to be accurate.

Wait, what? I don't remember magical Asians in Parent Trap. That is in the old Annie, though.

Not pitch perfect for 9 year olds, no way.

I'm confused. There's a musical version of Parent Trap? Yard apes? I don't remember that at all.
