Stokes

I also liked what I heard from the parents during the open house. Our son is learning Spanish and I would like for him to continue on this track. However, we just learned that we got into E.L. Haynes, so now I am torn between the two schools.

I am in agreement with other parents who posted, I think the standardized scores will improve over time in the next few years. But on another note, I know children who attend the school now who had limited English proficiency when they began the school and are progressing very well as an ELL student in the very short time they have been there.

You're very fortunate to have two nice choices. I hope that once you've taken the time to think them through and make up your mind that you'll inform the school you didn't choose at your earliest convenience. There are a lot of families out there on pins and needles waiting for some good news on the waitlists. Good luck whatever you do.

Any sense of the likely movement on the waiting list? We have a terrible number, but I'm just wondering whether anyone on here knows how the list moved last year for this charter.

Don't know about Stokes specifically, but the waitlist movement pattern is a well-known phenomenon. It goes like this: there will be some movement during the early weeks, say in the May timeframe. Then there will be a summer that crawls at a snail's pace. Then the last week or two of August will start moving with genuine urgency through all the names with a reasonable shot (of course, reasonable is a different number at every school). Finally, once school actually starts, during the first two weeks waitlist numbers will literally fly by. That's because most families have (obviously!) made other plans - some of which they've PAID for - some of which they've made peace with. So, if there's a school you REALLY want, you might find yourself with an offer - halfway through September! However, if you haven't heard by the first week of October then forget it. That's when the "official count" (which determines what the school will get paid) happens. Once that line is crossed they have no $$ motivation to accept new students.
