I love a simple white layered with whipped cream and fresh strawberries. Cover it with plain whipped cream and decorate with fresh berries. I adapted my recipe from one I found on Lauren’s Latest (baking blog) but I use more diced strawberries and way less powdered sugar in the whipped cream.

I usually go for chocolate cake but I make this frequently because my whole family loves it.

Assuming this is the same recipe directly from the book...

A few extra steps than some other simple cakes, but not really difficult. Unique and DELICIOUS.

My family likes jam and pudding layer cakes like this: https://www.culinaryhill.com/danish-layer-cake/

I am lazy so use instant pudding instead of the homemade. We also prefer a whipped cream “frost” but I think the buttercream is more typical.

Exactly. Personal reasons -- very good memories of my stand-in grandmother.

I don't make it to impress, but it is my favorite cake to make.

Interesting. Never head of this. Calls for canned pineapple though- must have to be nostalgia to want to make

My favorite cake to make quick and done is upside-down pineapple cake.

When I'm in the mood for more complex, I like to make a boston cream pie. Have to make layers, custard and ganache, but "frosting" is easy.

When I'm in the mood for really complex, I'll either make a cake from a mold and frost it (like a bunny cake at Easter), or I'll make a springform pan cake and add layers, fillings, maybe mousse

You were thinking that just because that's the kind of fruit in the recipe, that you can't substitute if you want?

You can! I am happy to blow your mind about that.
