Where is airplane noise not a huge issue in DC metro? Does this place exist?

Haven't noticed much in Rockville

I live in Takoma and only hear the occasional chopper.

Shall I continue?

We are in Mclean, so it's not true . It must be that flight paths changed or they change periodically or daily? Some days aren't as bad, but many enough days are constant 2 flights per minute ALL day long, Arlington definitely would hear it too and probably some parts of Great Falls based on how they fly

We thought we would be deep in and away from Potomac river, but it's getting unbearable here to open windows or use the deck. A very pricey area too, with multi million dollar homes, surprised how owners of these expensive homes don't complain. Is this normal or are there bad and good days? Seems like there is airplane noise every day, but some days it's like living on a landing strip with planes overhead every minute! I am fine with 1 plane per 10 min, to get some peace and finally hear the noises of nature (which is why we moved to the burbs), but it's never ending? Is there some traffic rerouting happening? We are in NOVA suburb near Mclean downtown which isn't close to Potomac at all.

We are in McLean near Old Dominion -Chesterbrook areas and we only get occasional/very little airplane noise, but we do get helicopters several times a day and military fly overs more than once a month.

We aren't that far from there.. Hmm, how come you don't hear it? Do you keep your windows closed? Today it's really bad.. Do you not hear it?

Takoma Park. I never hear airplanes. Plenty of other noise, but not airplanes.

I recently moved from my dream house in one of the areas you mention because flight paths changed and the noise became unbearable. There were cracks in my ceilings from the way my house would shake multiple times an hour, 14-20 hours a day. It was miserable.

We looked all over with idea that a new house could not be under a flight path. There are many areas of DC proper that this is the case, but if you want to be outside the city the only place close in that I found was Chevy Chase (although there is some occasional air traffic - albeit not directly overhead - and there are a ton of helicopters).

Our house is not shaking, at least this is a relief. We are also in a very heavily wooded area and I expected it to be quieter, not louder. I think something weird is going on with flight paths, it is not what the maps show and what air traffic websites show for DCA and Dulles, I hear planes but they aren't anywhere on the moving map that shows all aircraft.

I am looking at this right now https://webtrak.emsbk.com/dca
I hear the planes but often don't see anything on this map. The map is consistent with flight paths along the Potomac river

Are helicopters flying every minute? It's what planes do, it's so so disturbing, I used to live in huge cities with loads of noise and by the highway, but this is arguably the worst. And there are multi million dollar homes, tons of them in this new flight path and they are ok with it?

16:51 again. No - the helicopters are sporadic. There are a ton of them but they actually don’t bother me at all because they are here and gone so fast. It’s mostly military helicopters.

We live in Tenleytown and I would not describe airplane noise as a "huge issue" or an issue at all. Just FWIW.

Very little plane noise in Garrett Park, MD. We do have train noise, though.

Most of Fairfax county.

100% truth. Between Inova hospital, traffic copters over 495/66, and military, it is a frequent occurrence.

I went to Georgetown and on cloudy nights the sound of the planes coming into Reagan along the Potomac was insane.

" it's getting unbearable here to open windows or use the deck"

This is so weird to me. It's white noise at worst, and I've lived <3 miles from National Airport for over a decade. Why does it bother you so much? It's much less annoying than lawn care companies doing their thing.

Are you the same person who was complaining about this on a prior thread like it was some sort of enormous hardship?

No.. this is my first post. We recently moved from a place by the highway to be somewhere quiet and I was shocked that it feels like we are right by the airport while being many miles away and supposedly ( looking at maps) NOT in the flight path... It's literally 30 sec of peace at most I get between the planes all day long! It's crazy, I cannot believe people pay so much money to live in what used to be the plague of marginal and poor neighborhoods that tend to be near the airports. Yes, it's a hardship, I cannot open windows or use the deck, which was a whole purpose moving to the burbs
