No one is talking about long term obese. If you keep feeding a baby, whether through breast or bottle, and they are wanting to suck for comfort and not nutrition, they will spit up what their stomach can’t hold. This is over feeding. |
Yeah, and there's an obsession with shaming women who bottle-feed, especially if it's formula. |
My baby was also rarely content unless nursing and he had TERRIBLE reflux. Also gained a ton of weight very early on (and was 7 weeks early). Does she seem to have any pain immediately after nursing? |
| I had oversupply and one of my kiddos occasionally over ate. For him it led to projectile vomiting, not little spit ups. When I had the oversupply issues, he would unlatch and milk would spray five feet across the room, so I can see where it would have been challenging for him to suck for comfort without getting milk from my firehose nipples! So, I have no idea if your kid is overeating, but yes it is possible. |

Maybe reflux? My ped said that babies get relief from reflux while eating bc it pushes the acid down. But overfeeding exacerbates it.
Regardless, I think it's fine to try to start moving her to an eating schedule where you are spacing out the feeds a bit more (like 2 hrs from beginning of one feeding to the next). She might have just fallen into a routine of "snacking" all the time instead of doing full feeds. |
| I’d suggest talking to a lactation consultant. I had oversupply issues and my baby had bad reflux and the combination was a nightmare! As a prior pp said, if you have excess supply then your baby might not be getting enough of the hind milk which in turn exacerbated the overeating and reflux. I don’t have any particular advice but a lactation consultant might be helpful. |
Im not sure why you felt the need to insert a FF vs BF debate regarding mom. This post is about a baby being overfed. |
This isn’t a bad thing. |
She’s only 7 weeks old! That’s so young!!! You’re still in the “4th trimester” I’m sure it’s annoying sometimes, but this doesn’t sound like an “over feeding” issue. She’s just being close to you the only way she knows how. I think you’re doing great mama. If you’re worried though, talk to a lactation consultant or just call her doctor. |
What isn’t a bad thing? Shaming women for bottle feeding, especially if it’s formula? |
| 14 lbs at 7 weeks?!? Wow |
This. Everything may be completely normal, and the spitting up may just be reflux, but it could be this. I think it's good advice to see a lactation consultant. |

Op here. I don’t think she has reflux. She’s grumpy and cries when I’m not feeding her. But it’s not the stomach pain of reflux and she’s not physically uncomfortable. My older child had reflux and I could tell.
I think she gets enough hind milk. Her poop isn’t green like when I had a hind milk imbalance. |
| Especially the four hour night feed, this sounds very typical. I used to make that night fluster feed my binge watch Netflix session. For the daytime, does she take to a soft carrier? I was able to nurse in the k’tan while walking around you might at least be able to get your older child their breakfast or let the dog out. |
