So so many UMD! Ah well. I guess it’s just the area. When I think of how many kids in my Northern California High school went to UCs it just makes sense.

Same with almost any MCPS high-school which makes me wonder if really matters that much which one they go to as someone once said the same kid will do the same at any of these schools.

While you may hear many stories of kids who go from woottok to top colleges there are many others who *would* have gone to those top colleges except they are in a very competitive pool of similarly talented students. Had they done as well at a lower ranked school, they would have been a shoe-in.

Or if you were living in Montana, and applying to East Coast schools that you and DCUM love.

Of course many grads go to in state schools.

It doesn’t matter which MCPS high school, the majority stay in state. It’s affordable and not too far from home.

Yes your kids will compete with private school Kids at all Times in life. For jobs, promotions, internships and more. The world is overcrowded, the marketplace is saturated and if you think your kids will be in some sort of silo you’re mistaken.

Yes, and it's amazing how so many public school students are able to compete in the marketplace with private school kids.

Maryland is by far the best bang for the buck for any family that doesn't qualify for much aid. Far better than holding a 6 figure student debt after four years.

This, and without the sense of entitlement and understanding that they are part of a much bigger world.

Wouldnt it be crazy that some kids go junior colleges? Some go to trade schools? Some go to state schools..some go to ivy leagues...some dont go to school at all. Almost like one public school doesnt have a type.

It’s also an amazing school? I can’t believe anyone says “ah well” if their kids go to UMD.

Yes, some kids get into great schools but very few admits to really selective schools from Wootton given how impressive their stats are. It is TOUGH coming from Wootton, particularly if you’re white or Asian.
College counseling is pretty non existent. Public schools don’t have enough counselors to do much in the way of college counseling.

Just left that cluster before kids hit Frost/Wootton. I was once in your place and read your thread differently (perhaps) than the others. No, you are not getting your money’s worth. The upper tier cluster has ancient buildings - some of the oldest in the system. You paid 500,000 plus for your house and your kids are falling through the cracks due to politics. Gaithersburg high is brand new - and your tax dollars fronted it. (Title 1). Whitman is getting another addition after a recent rebuild - yep with your dollars. Wealthy talks. They pay more in taxes. Wootton has been delayed for a decade due to politics frankly - the ‘dirty’ middle doesn’t have enough power. Most of the marketing is about Blair because it’s in the power center of the county - TP/Ss. The Wootton cluster works on paper but has little or no soul. It should be called the Cram School cluster - probably has one of the highest per capita cram school clusters in the region. Seriously ponder moving - the housing prices are high and there are MUCH greener pastures. No the kids mostly go to UMCP unless they have family hook.

TP/SS schools are a much better deal with their ES magnets, MS magnet set-asides and access to HS magnet classes because everyone knows that area has all the political clout.

Won't anyone think of the poor western county residents! They have no political clout in Bethesda or North Bethesda, or North North Besthesda, or West Bethesda!
