Mini schnauzer skin problem - need help to id

Once a week bathing is way too much. Even if you think he is getting dirty just try brushing and wiping him down and don’t bath him for a month or two. Like the PP said his skin might just be getting irritated from all the soap and shampoo.

Oh poor little buddy. I have a mini schnauzer-- she hasn't had skin problems (although they are common in mini schnauzers) other than seasonal itching and allergies...but mini schnauzers (at least mine) seem prone to allergies and gastro issues. Definitely talk to your vet about allergies -- they can probably do a safe elimination diet. Some of the commercial dog food isn't safe (doesn't have the right nutrients, etc).

I feed my dog Fromms (no issues so far), minimal low fat treats, no peanut butter, cheese, etc. She's gotten very sick on fatty treats to the point where she needed medication--doesn't digest it properly.

Mini schnauzers are the most loyal, affectionate companions. Definitely a little high strung, but it's a small price to pay for that much love.

OP, I have had poodle mixes, not schnauzers, for decades and two of them had chronic allergies. We were never able to clearly identify the trigger/triggers. I tried every food brand and considered switching to raw. At one point a few years ago, my groomer suggested Apoquel and it has changed my senior dog's life. No negative side effects (she's 17), and her quality of life is so much better.
