2 new complaints about Basis

1. It is called the Star Wars program and replaces the old Basis Bucks from a couple of years ago. It is fun for kids and rewards good behavior but apparently annoys grumpy parents. Four points from Centaurus!

2. The donations are for the Annual Teachers Fund, and 100% of the money is giving directly to teachers as bonuses for top performance. Maybe it is bit gauche to list the top donors every couple of weeks but it is a good cause. If you are bothered by the limelight, throw in $50 and ask be listed as anonymous. Or perhaps you are bothered because you haven’t donated or others donated more than you?

I'm more concerned with a public school celebrating people with means to give more than others, not any concerns with others getting the limelight instead of me.

I don't donate because the teachers already make enough.

I'm more concerned that BASIS lacks a library, gym/stage, green space and computer lab. How about paying a humane building? Could care less who'd be in the limelight, or wouldn't have the means to donate, if there were a fund to improve facilities. Maybe we should ask the Gates Foundation to help. Teachers fund, whatever.

You are the "fresh air" troll that always visits Basis threads to rant about its facilities. The fact is that the school wasn't a good fit for your kid and the kid dropped out years ago. You have no present connection to the school and no current knowledge of the school. "Maybe we should ask the Gates Foundation to help"? Are you kidding? Maybe you should ask yourself why you harbor so much hate and resentment after so many years? Seriously, you sound unhinged.

I'm not at the school, but wow. It does seem like every school should have the things PP listed, especially when they're already raising funds to inflate salaries.

#1 is very British. Not just HP tho. Every school there does it... I don't love the competition between houses, and head boy/girl and all that, but it is a real thing.

Yes, anyone who attended school in the U.K. or a former British colony went to schools that adopted the Houses practice. I went to school in Southern Africa and we had Houses, all named after different types of antelope - i.e., Sable, Kudu, Eland and Impala. We competed against one another academically and in sports, wore specific House colors on certain days and would win prizes like parties or "free dress", etc. I think it's a fun practice
