MD High Schools Girls Playing VA ECNL Fall Schedule

People don't really understand this until they see it happen for themselves. It is all school spirit, which is great for many kids but those who wish to play beyond HS it is just to much of a risk.

My daughter has played as a starter in varsity since 9th. She’s in 12th. She also plays ECNL.

And what club might this be

A few play for Mclean, VDA and Loudoun.

Boys?

And girls.

I find it extremely odd that kids would want to carry the burden and then sit out for half a year.

Kids in VA play Fall ECNL and then Spring HS soccer. So what does a MD kid do?

Unless…of course…MCLEAN is rigging the system……….

Yeah, it's a conspiracy all right. pssshhh.
It's not just the Marylanders that face this. DC, and private school goers have the same conflict and manage fine.

When I say “rigging” I mean double dipping on both sides..playing for two different ECNL clubs through the year depending on the season….

Not allowed as that's against ECNL rules. Can only be rostered by one ECNL team per year, unless "released" by one club (due to relocation, for example).

How about doing the academy style where they are rostered on a non-ECNL team but play ECNL……

That would technically be ok. Just cant be rostered on two different ECNL teams during the same (league) year.

And now you found the “academy” loop hole

2 ecnl games on the weekend is a load in itself if you daughter is logging heavy minutes. can't imagine combining that with high school.

My kids DC private has many players playing HS and VA ECNL, and just travel in general.

There are a ton of injuries, related to overuse. They have 17 games for HS and they have practice on days there aren't games. Some weeks there may be 3 full HS games. The kids go directly to travel practice after the 90min-2hour HS practice ends for another 90 min practice. Then, there is a lot of travel for the Club team on weekends.

I have no idea how they are getting any homework/studying done because they have essentially zero weeknight hours (unless they stay up until the wee hours of the morning).

Best case scenario is to be on a team that plays the same season HS soccer so there is a bit more understanding.

My kid is one of only 3 on his VA team that is at a school with Fall HS soccer, the rest play it in spring.

I used to have your attitude and then I noticed the number of ACL injuries due to overuse. This is a real thing. If you are a bench ECNL player who may be still a star in HS then maybe not as bad if you manage practices but a starter on ECNL and school is a very dangerous thing.

How about you MD people stop double dipping and play ECNL
One season and HS the other.

Not that hard

There are girls who live in VA but play for MD teams, or who attend a private school in MD or DC and thus playing HS in the fall.

It happens on both sides of the river.

Many of the ECNL girls in VA play for their DC or VA privates so same issue --- both seasons in fall. On some teams it is half the team or more.

I dont know a single one that does that….must be a Arlington/McLean thing.

First world rich kid problems.

Common theme seems to be private school and rich folk probably side-dooring into college via another sport after all that soccer money they spent and they still weren’t good enough to make a bench in college.

side door of another sport? You mean they excel at multiple sports? This is a bad thing?

Sounds more like they want the best of both worlds without suffering the consequences of it.
