PGCPS list of schools that have COVID cases

Are we supposing that all these letters home just represent one case each? It seems unlikely that each day there has been one new case. Doesn't it seem more likely that there would be several cases each time?

I’m thinking the same, but the letter is pretty vague and doesn’t give any details.

And another ERHS case.

As crappy as this is, this is a sign that the system is working. The schools were monitored and they took action when they saw there was an issue.
The change to making kids who are vaccinated but asymptomatic quarantine is a huge pain though.

There are 70 separate schools with a case listed for 12/13

At some point it is going to be hard for the school district to keep up with them all.

12/15 cases at 41 schools

Omg. Just stop. It's a running ticker of open schools during a pandemic. Look at your community transmission rate. Do you honestly think a school system would have less cases that the community it supports?

It doesn't mean a school system should close during a pandemic. Unless the schools are the ground zero for the outbreaks (which hasn't proven to be true) than there is no reason to do anything other than pay attention to your child and whether they are ill.

Yes, all schools everywhere will eventually have a case of Omicron. They are not microban castles.

Not true because schools need adults to operate safely. We have so many teachers out.
My vaccinated friend has COVID and is in the hospital. It isn’t always mild.
I don’t want schools to close or go virtual but I DO want students to have mandatory kn95 masks, mandatory vaccine, and prepare for virtual if quarantined

12/13 cases at 70 schools
12/14 cases at 55 schools
12/15 cases at 41 schools

12/13 cases at 70 schools ----> now 77 schools had at least one case that day
12/14 cases at 55 schools ----> now 64 schools had at least one case that day
12/15 cases at 41 schools ----> now 69 schools had at least one case that day.

Many cases have the asterisk meaning multiple cases but no way to tell if it is 2 cases, or 20 or more.

YES.
I came to post this and just realized the PGCPS forum has disappeared.

Where can I find the number of cases each school has reported in PGCPS?

The number of cases in my kids 8th grade cohort makes me think that it wasn't just community spread and that they were getting exposed at school. Can't say if it was kid to kid or teacher to kid but I am fairly confident that they were exposed to Covid at school.
My kids is in a specialty program with about 120 kids in the grade. At least 10 of the kids in that cohort tested positive in less than a week. At least half (probably more) were fully vaccinated. I am friends with 2 of the parents and those families are very cautious and the kids are masked all the time. The parents think the kids were exposed at lunch.

When they changed the criteria for quarantining, there was no way they could keep the schools staffed because even vaccinated teachers had to quarantine if they were in close contact.

That said, I think that PGCPS could have kept younger kids in school who seem to be less impacted by Covid(K-3rd) and are known to really struggle with online learning.

But I don't know what Dr Goldson was seeing. She is a very thoughtful person and wouldn't have done it unless she was being advised by experts to do so.

What we need is for the people in power to make the hard call and mandate vaccinations for all students. It wouldn't completely end infections but it would certainly slow things down. FDA also needs to get booster shots approved for the 12-15 year olds.

What kind of mask do they wear though? Look, I know everyone thinks that the only place kids could possibly be exposed is lunch, but it’s just not true. They’re sitting together for hours in masks that have a wide variety of fits and filtration capability. No mask is bulletproof, I know healthcare workers who were masked 100% of the time on the job and still got it.
